Ever went looking for a rare you wanted, crappy or uber, just to find it equipped by a Herald? Doesn't that just grind your gears? And even if your RP would allow you the chance to kill them you can't do it because they have PK immunity? Doesn't that just grind your gears even more? How about this.
New idea: If a Herald wants to have rares, rather than be the RP character they applied for, it should negate the PK immunity. If you have no rares, only then can you have and/or use this immunity, but the instant you have a rare in your inventory you can no longer have and/or use this immunity. And for this to work, something would have to be coded so such players cannot just hand a rare item to such other players just to PK them, or hence make it illegal (against the rules with HARSH punishment) for doing such.
This is just the beginning and perhaps the end of my idea as I have not thought into it 100% so please.... give me your input.
Meh, most of the time heralds don't have good rares anyway. But I believe the PK immunity is a higher level ability, not sure though. But I do agree, sitting with Immunity to PK with desirable rares is not awesome.
Whether they have good rares or crappy ones is not my point. With PK immunity such rares are out of circulation for others whom might be lvl 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, or 50. What might be a crappy rare for a 50 could be an awesome rare for a 20. And with so many low lvl rares out of circulation, i.e. mithril vests, how will many of the new players learn about such rares and/or equipment. If I was a new player right now I would have no idea that a mithril vest even exists just because it has not been around for months.
I'd be inclined to agree. My heralds, once they'd become established and higher ranked, almost never had rares.
The point has been made, however, that PK is a vital element of RP. Daemian had to battle against several characters in the course of his lifetime, despite the 'Don't kill stuff' credo.
I think Heralds need to be reworked. I know it's faux pas to criticize without offering an alternative, but I haven't really put my mind to it. It's quite clear that they're essentially ignored unless they become involved in some major way with an immortal plot.
Heralds do have a nifty ability to use certain items strewn about the lands - perhaps make more of those?
Increase the number of Herald-only items in the cabal?
And while we're on the subject, I'd like to see Heralds have a monopoly on notes and the distribution of information. That'd certainly make them more sought out.
Higher ranked Heralds can approve descriptions? I've seen that one thrown around, and I thought it was cool.
You keep refering to PK immunity. Said skill is not PK immunity, spend some coins and have that pesky Herald dealt with. Can you believe this? Now someone says Heralds are OP. For a Pbase that has an average age of over twenty, this forum deals with an awful lot of crying. Maybe I am old and crabby but if the tone that this forum has taken lately does not change for the better, I fear that only Aabahran will suffer. There are many ways to bring up a particular problem you are having without trying to slander or deface another player, or group of players. It is a game, it should be both fun, and enjoyable. This forum I have always considered to be here for the good of the game, but then we log in here and trash each others ideas and thoughts often without even considering to speak respectfully. Kudos to any of you new players who have stuck it out, through all the whinning we have seen lately. I can only pray it gets better soon, blessed be, and all do respect Ghrundor.
Also, This herald skill already requires the Herald to carry "few" rares. Your saying you want them to have NO rares. Seriously? I mean its really not pk immunity and the killers they will have to deal with will be decked. And you say Oh no, zero rares? News flash! The grandmistresses white skull is meant for Heralds, and its rare so your theory will never work. If a herald has a rare you seek, ask him/her for it, they would likely rather hand it to you than spend the day explaining to anume or if possible a more strict deity why they are hoarding it.
If Heralds ever got reworked it would be nice to see subcabals. Before I go on, do they even have two choices already? (never been a herald) Well if they don't...
One could be like a bookworm, hoarder of scrolls etc...Write the notes of importance to the lands, manage the worlds greatest library, be almost Savantesque in their delving for knowledge and information. Maybe even have great laboratory for inventors. I could see some high wisdom races joining and inventing eq and other items. (this could help with the balancing project)
The others could be more like the recruiters and merchants for the Herald. They would be better at dealing with the "plebes" and could sell the latest informaton/inventions of the great Library/Workshop. We'd finally have available player merchants that aren't a new class, but they might get some type of pk protection under certain conditions.
Herald immunity is not total Immunity.
And it's not always on. If you really wish a Herald dead you there is always a way when there is a will.
