This is not a whine, flame, complaint, or bitch, but i was thinking the other day. How much would it throw off the game to put in more of the uber rares? Our rare count is constantly screwed for bounties, shelved chars, etc etc. I have not seen Solar mace, Winged Sandals, Soulreaver Shadow in a long time. I am sure there are others, but those spring to mind.
My mode of thinking is adding more rares won't throw the game off, I think it might have the opposite with leveling the playing field. I don't mean uber rares mind you, but maybe mid to good re equip gear. Titanium fullplate, Spiked gauntlets, Crabshell legs, shark skin sleeves, Robe of Tuo, moonstone pendants. Adding these things in will probably help. Let's face it, some of the vets, and elites here can keep a suit of gear indefinately so long as there are no stupid mistakes. While a newbie usually loses that shiny set of powerfists in a few days at most. Giving people access to more of the mid/good level rares is just going to close the gap between decked elites, and re equiped vets. Sure skill plays a part in FL, but you cannot explain to a newbie to use a sharp glaive for the next four years, then you should get this crap.
OR
Maybe tone down the power of the uber rares. A giant melee wearng adeptus gear with arctron/power hammer combo is going to give the pbase some serious trouble. The newbie in that gear can cause trouble. But when you pit that person against some freshly pinned chars, he fresh pinns rarely have an even close to level playng field. So why not adjust some ac, and some hit/dam/Uber saves.
Yes to more common rares.
No to uber rares, like sandals nimbus or the sort.
And the Solar Mace should be made a Rare, not Unique.
More rares like:
Globes
Titanium
Moonstones (someone balance Ice Amulets and Moonstones)
Maul
Spiked gauntlets
Warped Skull
Tuo Robe
And while we are at it, someone make a Hit/Dam roll RARE ring.
It's like Onyx/Opal -> Dragon/Accuracy(factions). There is no middle ground.
And a One handed mace for goods just like NightBringer. No, smoking Mace is insane to get, and has crazy requirements.
And someone make the Mace Holy Spirits one handed, just like the Unholy Mace.
Good Maces:
Sun sceptre (L12) -> Elven Mace (L16)-> Golden Maul (L50)-> Power Hammer/Scepter (L50)
Evil Maces:
Sun sceptre (L12) -> NightBringer(socket) (L30) -> Unholy Mace (L42) or Golden Maul (L50) -> Power Hammer/Scepter (50)
2 handed maces are for giants, there is little use for them, except when forced due to Vulnerabilities.
And how about a Average 25 magic sword that is not 2 handed ? Perhaps nodrop.

KRins, magus of textual accuracy, has fixified your flawed statement. I believe I have made it considerably more accurate to the current state of rarelock (I invented a term...its like gridlock...except I can log out and play a game with some version of equipment availability/power balance whenever I want.) we are all having the pleasure of hating. Yet another customer service fail...
EDIT: We should really just allow advertisements for other games on the forums. The IMMs could get ad revenue to hopefully keep the server open until it actually functions as a game instead of ego inflationatron 1.0... and the rest of us would have something to do instead of not having anything due to the rarelock/rampant lack of RP behind literally anything.

and I counter your argument by saying this is not a Godwars MUD of mindless hack and slash. That EXACT mentality is why we have the dismal RP we do... oh look, I want it. Not the character I, the player I. You COMPLETELY just outlined step 1 in becoming a RPless and, in my mind, completely worthless member of the community.

An admirable retreat from your "you have it, I'll take it by force" mentality, and I love that you are somehow looking for a pat on the back for generosity. Anyone taking my statements personally... there is a reason. It is because you are the horder, the 100% powercombo roller, the silent PKer who doesn't even pretend to have RP unless an IMM takes the EXTREMELY rare occasion to notice...and you are able to backpedal and stammer your way out. Here, I'm going to do the bad thing here - I'll be the Devil's Advocate. It just so happens the in this case this argument is one I believe in:

Well? Mostly you'll find me on chaotic evil character. Some are more manipulative, some are outright power mongers and would sell you down the river for half a gold coin. Others just like causing others pain (like the help for Scoruge suggests). Others like shiny things. Some want to see what your insides look like no matter your eq.
When I kill for eq my RP fits perfectly that if I want it I'm going to go get it - and I've characters where it didn't fit and I didn't do it (a neutral stone zerk comes to mind - how many people wandered past me unsanc'd and were ripe for picking I dont' know.....). However, inherently there isn't anything wrong with taking your eq from someone's cold, dead hands.
Of course, I don't need to kill to get that type of eq either. You know what I did on my last lvl 50 - I didn't hunt a single person for their eq. I ran down cabal and personal enemies only. You know what else I managed - I got a full set of very nice raes - 60/50 hit/dam on a non-giant melee with better than -30 saves in the categories. How - I was absolutely fastidious in rounding up people for eq trips. Then I went and solo'd what I could (which has been change now, thanks be to Zho). Its not THAT hard to get the rares and hold on to them. In fact, I lost my suits multiple times in PKs and to get back to 'competitive' was less than a week if I put in 2 - 3 hours a day.

Those of you saying the eq isn't there need to do two things:

Find multiple pieces of eq to fill the slots and check them. If you can think of four types you can usually get one. If not, just make do until you can.

So...you personally calling me out by name isn't an attack? I think my posts against certain mentalities, playstyles, etc. are bitter, because who is excited when they are part of a broken system. When I am poorly governed, I voice my disagreement and methods to fix things. The staff do not seem to have so much of an issue with my statements, especially since I'm not calling them names. I am not attacking people, I am attacking the norms of our community and the fact that I do not feel those with the authority have curtailed the norms that are counter-productive to our community. And trust me, I play enough to keep tabs so that my statements are timely and accurate.
That said, I do agree that their are certain RP angles that would practically dictate that you loot what you have from people you fight. Unfortunately, that is pretty much THE standard angle that literally EVERYONE plays. The vast majority of those characters do not even have one of the thousands of RP angles I can think of in about 10 seconds that would dictate that much violence. Instead they invent one as quickly as they can to save their skin when an IMM does question their "roleplay." (god it makes me sick to even jokingly use this term to describe some of the actions I've personally observed in game) In response to that, those players who cling to their RP despite the crashing waves of NO-RP all around them do deserve to have their dedication rewarded. If you are so confident you can just reach out and take it at will... whats wrong with another copy of a rare in circulation? The PKers should be excited they have more people to prey on. The RPers should be happy because maybe just once they can RP finding that shiny object everyone knows is in Faction X, deepening their bond to their character and the other characters that may or may not have accompanied them. I don't see a downside for anyone except anyone who wants to completely corner the game, crushing all motivation for people to play with them. Basically, there is no good reason to not want extra shinies around if you value having more than just you on the who list.
