Crazy Idea.

Hey,

Before you all shout this idea down on general principle, I challenge you to actually read through it and have a decent think.

My suggestion is to make the telepathy psions a selectable class on creation for illithids. My reasons are as follows:

  1. Telepathy psions are in no way equal in power to the other two paths. Many of their skills pre-date the psion revamp and were never changed. Everyone always says "Well, qraces/qclasses are meant to be hard to get because they are stronger than average classes." With telepathy psions this is just not true. So it's not like you'd just be giving away super qclass power to anyone who wanted to roll one up.

  2. From reading the new helpfile (which is really cool, btw) illithid are meant to be naturally psionic. They hate other magic, and practice necromancy purely to understand the mysterious powers of the undead. It seems strange to me that a race naturally gifted with psionic abilities must first become a necro, rank to lvl 50, send in an application, and only then be granted the powers they are supposed to already be masters of.

  3. It would give what I consider one of the coolest and most RPable races in the game two, instead of a measly ONE, class they can be from creation. How many telepathy psions do we really see out there? It's a real shame, because I think the RP potential for that combo is one of the best in FL.

Flame on.

My complaint would be that psions are supposed to be a secret society, not very secret if anyone can roll one at creation. That and their the only qclass neutrals can even app for, you might see a lot less people trying for a neutral one if they can just roll an evil one at birth. that being said i don't see a problem with it from a balance prospective.

Believe me, people will not pass up the chance to roll a neutral psion with good powers to roll a telepathy psion with questionable ones.

I do not really see the downside to this ability, besides giving away bits of Psi info, but if you where to just take that path out and make it a seperate class. I like it.

I was thinking the same thing, or at least it can be a special psi path that can be played only by illithids.

I've always wondered why the only class that this highly psionic race can be is a.....necromancer.

I like the idea.

I like the idea too. Illithids aka Mindflayers, are a race that is specialized in extracting brains and have telephatic abilities. I don't see why are they only necromancers.

It would be more fitting.

You see, they lost most of their knowledge of psionics when they came to the surface.

This is your brain on drugs.

This is an illithids brain in the sun...

I think that Illithid Psions are incredibly powerful. I have not played any other psion but I have fought both other psion paths and I think all three are equally devastating if played correctly.

Those of you who remember when I played Zoix, I had a ton of kills. Definitely not a gimped choice.

I do agree that squid need more open to them though. With things like slith rangers, storm paladins and fire dks, someone should roll up and app for a squid invoker, I bet it would be pretty beefy. Squid BMG would also be pretty sick I think... Even a cleric, though that would be odd, a communing Illithid...

So long as you do not whine when you get gimped. Unusual combis are not meant to be pk powerhouses, they are rp mainly.

but would they be pk combos? any more than a drow reaver or ogre ranger reaver/barbarian, etc. why gimp them?

truly? i think it would be alright

dwarf pally, duergar dk, storm pally, fire dk, slith ranger. Most of these things did exist at one time or another in the troika of our code family. Good aligned werebeast, etc.

just sayin', as we always try to allude to, its the player, not the combo or the gear.

edit: i don't want to hear any junk 25 str dual malforms argument

duergar dark knight would equal sex

I have played an FG dk, its really not overpowering because of your utter lack of mana pool. I had to dump mana into trains just to be able to cast malform. Low dex, and mana pool means your melee is not that overpowering, couple that with the fact alot of dks revolve around use of mana, and you come across the fact that fg dks balance themselves.

I see slith ranger as potentially overpowering if it is properly played (no offense sandbox).

Dwarf Pally, and Duergar DK in my opinion would be a bit too strong. Mag resistance on an already powerful class (pally) would be annoying. Duergar Dk would also be very powerful, as it removes the need to carefully balance saves. Duergar would also have the highest dex, and con, of the base DK races. I think those two would be overpowered a bit

Been tested, its fine.

And its really no different than trying to kill or being killed by a Combat Dwarf Cleric

If it is fine, then I doubt they would be excluded

I can not even Imagine the pain it would be to fight a Dwarven Paladin.

Yes, they can die fast. A Giant Warrior dual wielding Water weapons that the Paladin does not knows, cause paladins only know four, and bashing him would be a quick drowning for the Dwarf.

But mages would have a Insane time trying to beat them.

Duergar DK, are you kidding ?

Underdark Recall, Magic resistance, 21 STR 20 DEX 22 CON - 900-1000K HP 700 Mana..., Underdark Dig. Sign me up.

For me the best DK killer is a Good Cleric, due Ray Blind/Silence, Isolate pet.

IF the DK has easy access to Saves then we got a very difficult problem.

Dwarf Combat Clerics are not that great of a Problem. Elf Combat > Dwarf Combat.

no offense taken, lol.. its not like i was running around with a fully functional ranger to begin with . That and i suck at pk. ( that being said I'm sure someone else could have been a force of mass destruction with the same skill set i was given i suppose.)

Why is the Slith Ranger so powerful, imaginating that they lose their Auto-trip.

So easy to code.

If character = !NPC then Trip chance = getskill%"trip".

No more autotrip for any PC with 0% trip skill.

I just can't see a cold blooded (which is an advantage of the race) creature having the affinity to call animals to their aid. It depends on your take on rangers.

honestly out of all of the fights i had with her, the strongest thing that sliths had as a ranger was the eyelids. being able to rescue myself often with pets was very nice. Most of the people i fought were flying anyway so the tail was not much good other than a little extra damage every now and then, still not as much as an ogre with two handers but still nice. Shed skin was okay for a ranger but most times I needed it I was already lag locked or the fight was so close i couldn't afford to waste the lag. Not having herb was painful, and not having a natural enemy was unfortunate as that can be a strength against attrition classes. A fully equipped slith ranger without losing skills would rival ogre because of the eyelids and shed, If i had herb shed would have really come in handy in a ton of situations. I know there are other ways to heal but for some reason i forgot where those items are located. I lost ambush which was ok with me because i never really used it unless my opponent was asleep. I would have been ALOT stronger with the tail had i gone tracker but i decided to go with the less powerful path hoping i wouldn't loose too much of my race or class.

all that being said i still prefer feral over all other races for ranger due to there fury and defense boost and ogre due to their ability to wield big shiny weapons and huge hp.
