Paladin VS. DK

Quite possible the two coolest ideas for classes in the game. I know everytime I boot up the mud to roll a char, these two are always an option. My only qualms with them is that they seem a bit underpowered. I know they were fixed and there might actually be nothing wrong with them. While I really don't have much of a problem with DK's it's their huge selection of skills and spells that might send some players spirling in confusion about what to use and train, while with paladins on the other hand it's their dreaded lack of weapon useage. Why is it that Dk's have so much more at their disposal not only every weapon save staff, and paladins only get 4? Yes they are tanks and nearly indestructable but why can't they use weapons like spears of flails? I don't know this isn't a rant just looking for an opinion or two I suppose.

uhhhh

sanctuary

cure critical

mounted charge

heroism

flamestrike

???

should they get dirt kick, too? and blasphemy? ;p

I just don't see why they don't get one or two more weapons.

Sorry but, ARE YOU ****ING JOKING?

Paladins underpowered? DKs underpowered????

Dale, I further assault your query with a wave of unrelenting sarcasm! BAM.

But no... I agree. Neither are underpowered at all. Think of pallies as less training, then. ;D

Pally weapon selection is a balancing factor. If pallies had flails, spear etc, they would have an even larger weapon select. The last thing a pally needs is +10 to charge, or unblockable damage.

Perhaps I did say underpowered, but I didn't mean anything serious about it. Apparently I came off wrong with what I was trying to say.

As Emp_Newb said, it's a question of class balance... i.e. giving them flails would strengthen them a great deal against invokers (because of the high offensive power of the weapon), which are currently one of the paladin's badly needed banes.

Besides, as it is they already have a weapon they can use against just about any target without their opponent having it as well (warriors and zerks being the exceptions).

Yes they are tanks and nearly indestructable but why can't they use weapons like spears of flails?

sheathed on belt: Fatfinger, the spear of flails.

Hehehe.

Ever had a DK fireball you while a warlock bashed?

Ever had a pali charge you then wrath?

Underpowered?

I would say no.

if they're underpowered...cowers in fear for what is "balanced"

If a small choice of weaponry is the logic behind why people sometimes think of Paladins as being weak as a class that relies on melee, then what about blademasters?

Blademasters have small weapon choice, but their arsenal of offensive skills is seen to make up for it.

When people face Paladins, it's not seen as obviously because their offensive output is not as expansive - but their healing and protective buffs make up for it. I found the key to Paladins (I lie here, as it was Raargant that had to drill this into me, I think he took pity on my Paladin #3) is to cure, cure cure - and whilst that sounds obvious, it's surprising how easy it is to not cure as much as you should in the thick of combat. Then once you get more comfortable, you can experiment with 'feigning being near death' and lulling people into a false sense of security, a la the shaman.

Nothing is more satisfying than letting someone drop you to a fairly low amount of health, and you let them chase you (all the while knowing they're losing moves and you aren't, thanks to heroism) for a bit, throwing in the odd cure now and again, and turning it against them in the fantastic mounted charge/wrath combo - especially if their sanc has fallen in the chase.: D

Dey

if fireball is sucking huge damage on a pally, your not arming as a pally right. Bashing a pally is fine with me when I played one, alot of the time I came out healthier than before the bash

I think he was saying that as a general pro-argument for the strength of a DK, not the weakness of a Paladin.

Since i still did not imput.... whatever.

DK's are a more rewarding class for an Veteran Experienced player, once he reach a high step of knowledge about the game.

DK's will give you more than a Paladin ever will.

More options, more options to grow, Custom EQ. A spell for each class.

Meele and Magic all in one package.

DKs are the most rewarding class indeed, but to reap those rewards you need to know what you are doing. This is the case with everything in games. The more edge something gives you, the harder it is to be achieved. And that is how it should be. Otherwise everyone would be using that edge.

This is the same case to a lesser extent with meles (mostly warriors).

One day when I feel comfortable enough at rank 50, I will make my DKN. Then you will all suffer
