The Economy, Leveling, and You

Ok, so, let's face it...there aren't a LOT of players online at any given time. This makes it a real pain to rank, as we all know. Half the time I find myself working on spells or just idling, hoping someone will login so I can rank up. Fact is, the PK is at level 50, and when there's no one around, it's damn hard to get to 50.

So, here's my proposal...

Let's make gold worth something. Let's let players BUY ranks with enough gold. How about we let them buy ranks all the way up to level 49...BUT, they have to EARN 50?

Here's the thought. Each rank becomes exponentially harder to achieve via gold (I'll give the formula here in a moment). Based on your level and experience penalty, it costs more and more. But, if no one is around, you can always scavenge for cash and try to buy your way to that next rank.

The formula works like this:

x = level you want to achieve

y = your experience penalty

g = cost (in gold) to get that level, rounded up.

g = (x1000+(xy))*(x/3)

Plug it into Excel or any calculator and check. For a no-experience-penalty player, to get from level 1-49 costs a total 13,475,022. Thirteen million gold is a real pain to come by and really, not practical. But, to get from, say, level 43 to 44 costs 645,334 gold. Still a lot, but doable, right? Especially if no one is around to rank with. Or, if you have a huge experience hole.

IMMS: Implementation would be cake. One mob per city could grant advance level to the player if the right amount was paid. If you wanted to get fancy, you could add a player flag that would indicate which levels were "bought", so that could possibly be weighed into, say, cabal decisions.

Thoughts?

I like it.

I like you, Pali.

Mmmm, Pali....

I like this idea. I hope it goes somewhere.

God.. the shops are never going to have money now! If your going to buy rank ups, the shops need a better economy or something. They dont exactly have a lot of money, nor do people buy much to resupply them.

Hahahahahaha! Lets DO IT.

After Bradah I know how to make a lot of money very quickly. Muwahahaha! KEEN!

This would be great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So... instead of doing quests you would rather farm gold?

At least questing requires you to know a little something more than simply how to firestorm 300+ treants or killing the Chimera 700+ times to sell his equipment.

On the other hand... if you really want to run areas such as gear or avalon, or find all the shrines, just to waste the gold on leveling when you can gain that level with a little running around on quests... to each their own I suppose.

Personally, I'd save my gold and buy off a few bounties if my rp allows.

Maybe just increase the solo ranking xp more OR boost the less than 20 online bonus more...

I don't really like the idea of buying experience with gold...

In my timezone, I very rarely see more than 5 people online...usually 2 or 3...so solo my way to 50 for the last year and a half or so...

Maybe add fetch quests to some of the shops (pelz, you need that hurricane helm right now? thanks for the 700 xp)

Im kinda with Celerity on this one, I just got back and with my char Ive only been able to group once and with one other person but Im not complaining. If there is one thing above all Ive learned in my 8 years playing here is that the groups will fluctuate and will return eventually. I know some of us cannot wait that long to hit 50 but I guess I am just a training quest hog who likes to take my time.

I, honestly, prefer to rank Solo with every class. I've never found it hard to get to ~30 (usually 35ish) with a CC (Invoker, Necro (illithid), Cleric and even a Bard without songs to 35 before grouping), but past that I'm not sure. Do quests.

What I may suggest is doing different "quests". Have mobs in certain areas asking players to do things (a'la World of Warcraft/LotRO/Runescape/whatever). "I need someone to explore the Crytlmere Caves and tell me what they've found!" So you walk all over the caves and have to hit 5 key rooms before you complete the quest.

Have the Cartel Dealer at the docks run low on herbs and also want to try out ot her things, and hand out a shopping list of some herbs from around the world. More "Go kill 30 of these." type things. Have fun with this! Go nuts with Mirvhor having a war with the Demons north of the Town at the Pentagram, and they NEED THEM DEAD! It can escalate up from a lower level where the undead/dead from south of Mirvhor started the war, and it's later discovered the Demon's north of town are behind it!

Build the story of FL to go on when no one is there to rp it. I understand this is an RP, player driven game. But with 13 people on, most of them not in your group range, it get's hard. Something like this, with a dynamic, current, history can liven the game. And who cares if it's "dated" in a year? How long has Ohram been killing Tamara's bouncer or forgetting about Vial's of Sanctuary or that Mulao can't pay his debt... ever?

I can see designing this and, to an even greater degree, doing this quests would be fun. Make many combat orientated, and maybe even give it a different quest log? So that Heralds still will have the Master Quester most of the time, but a FG warrior who just knocks the crap outta the "kill a brazillion of these" quests won't get it, but might get "The Quester of Doom." title instead, that might grant a slight bonus to Hit/Dam? Or, after killed 500 oozes, "The Smosher of Oozes"

Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but I think this will lead to people OOC ranking eachother with gold.

Pessimism or not, people still OOC rank with groups. Somehow my AIM got out despite my requests, and I've been requested to (by a few players, not all) "If you've got any mid level, Good tanks, bring 'em on. I am sick of spamming spells."

This does fall into the, "Lazy Category", in my eyes. As I can power through 35 levels in a week with no one else on. (at that's not playing 2 hours a day). But,as the playerbase get's smaller, the branches get longer. I talk to more people now than I used to, even though I don't talk about my characters that much. And when I do, it's usually in the, "So, I deleted this..."

But... everyone knows who everyone plays. Hell, everyone knows Eshaine plays Anume... so... yeah.

Maybe just increase the solo ranking xp more OR boost the less than 20 online bonus more...

This is under way.

A Guitarist: I really like some of your quest ideas. If you have the time, do some more elaborate proposals on Prayer.

Knowing Esh = Anume shouldn't be too hard after I stated that at least 2 or 3 times on the forum

Well maybe you haven't stated it too much enough!

Or maybe...

GO VOTE?

Don't You ever Tell Me How To Live My Life.

Haha...

So you're going to vote, right?

I don't like the idea of buying XP. Solo ranking and questing seems profitable enough for me.

Also, as someone stated already, shops never have enough gold. Now they won't have anything at all.

I don't really like this idea. However, I suggest you make a poll about it.
