Sometimes you've gotta suspend RP for functionality. On a smaller level. No one gives a crap about mobs.
That's the problem. If we're only supposed to RP with those that always RP back... wha'ts the point in calling it a Traveler or Happy Farmer? Why not call them "the retarded Nymph, cousin of the other's who doesn't deserve to live" or "yet another bear on this forest trail."?
If they're here for atmosphere, you interact wtih teh atmosphere. I piss off a lot of people with my current project. I'm neutral and won't kill another "smart" race unless they attack me or I have reason.
Suspend RP foor functionality, yeah. But I remember getting reamed by Sirant for eating the foot of a person I killed.... cause I was a good and a common cannibal- which didn't mix. The store was closed, it was a mob, and I was starving... Why would a nature Druid kill Troliar? I can think of reasons, but none are ever used past "i want that damn staff."
You are right, some things need to be "forgotten" or "allowed" because of mechanics. Farmer Griff coming back everytime, for example. But why is Neutral/Neutral Dwarf Warrior going to kill him and not get **** for it?
Why would a Good kill anyone not evil for a reason such as "I want gold..." if I see a good kill a neutral mob for gold that is a "race", i get upset. Go kill oozes, or imps or dark treants in elium, you know they're evil and hurting the place.
But, here is my issue... why suspend RP for bad functionality? If you need food and have an option for another way of getting it... go get it. It's bad RP do just "what's quick and what can I get away with?" Further, why RP these mobs as beings? Because someone put the time into creating them, and usually a story for the area? Because RolePlay is not encouraged, it's enforced? Because we're Americans, we're lazy all day, why not put some effort in at a game? Because it shows a depth of character? Because it's fun to RP with things and hope the imms are there? Because you can now be rewarded for it? Because it's the right thing to do?
Everyone wants to be a memerable character, with a restring title, an awesome legacy, a street named after them, and millions remembering them fondly... are you going to do that by doing what everyone else does? Why was Calandra so powerful? Yeah, he was a skilled player... with insanely powerful cabal skills that allowed him to move while hidden, invis, and cabal hidden- no one could see him. Is that it? No, Calandra was a bad *** on the field, too... but off the batle field they kicked Justice outta Mirvhour, created a castle, destroyed Demons until he was told to stop, ran a Ninja only Guild... lots of RP.
Is Palwan known because she's a badass on the field? Nope, for RPing differently...and being the town ink well, everyone get's to dip their quill (new last name everytime I sign in, I swear
, love ya', Rose.) But, she's a badass to be remembered because she puts the time in to be remembered, by being one to stand out.
Yekosavic, those who remember him remember him because of the strange **** he did... created a Vampire Only Guildhall, Took out 3 Chaos members at the same time, RPed with a Dead God,, but didn't brag about it because who would believe an evil elder in savant trying to out do a good elder for leader when it was a good god only tlaking to him? Wore a outfit and cloak made of squirrel pelts... ****, how many vamps did that?
Shandronas? His buddy that was always around? Karma/Ghenna? Demon bard? Give me one badass on the battlefield that didn't have a million other things going for them as to why they'r eremembed.... but eveyrone throws a fit because they can't achieve the same. A fit because they don't do it all, only aim for badass. I watched Calandra RP with mobs all the time... in 1.0, before it was even considered... I watched a buncha people RP with mobs in passing. This is a game, yes... but it's RP enforced, which is a rule... not a "maybe". I dunno, ranting and pissed 'cause SU can't seem to do a damn thing right on the court...
