Exp curve for low level casters

I know it is apparent our pbase is not what it used to be, so maybe we could up the exp gained by spam training sub 15, after that you can get decent charmies to help ranking. So maybe have those little spells toss out a bit more exp than normal?

Something usefull would be a Lowbie mage XP guide.

Here is what i do:

Create character:

-1º Buy a 500 gold weapon, practice weapons are for latter.

-2º Rank 1-6 - Level in Mud school, until i get kicked out, i dont even do wolfs.

-3º Do guild all guild quests. Explore Tarandue for neack wear hitroll, and get the Kamir caves bracers. Visit Shazarade and get the elven girdle.

-4º You should be now level 7, buy/get a staff and use it. As you not have parry, and the creatures you fight have no defence (dodge/parry)

-5º Rank alone to level 8. I normaly do bats/rats in Kamir caves.

-6º Go to Shazarade and buy an Alsatian. This will be your main pet/damage dealer for many ranks.

-7º Evils/Neutrals go to Snail under Mirhuv and some kids under snails when you can handdle.

Good's its rats, then move to Oozes, then Tombs.

-8º At level 10 you get a Stone golem scroll from one of the shops in the ??? Town to aid you.

-9º A evil mage alone with his pets can take even Dryads in emerald while getting 300xp a pop.

This ranking is slow but still is better than doing nothing. Remenber it's not getting 500-300 xp a pop that speeds things up. Its doing those 150 xp a pop over and over quite fast, only resting to let them return.

I am fairly sure you can get the stone golem at rank 5, if you have enough gold.

I usually get 2 - 3 lower ranks done with quests.

Rather than implementing an exp curve which is already in place for groups of three and for alignment based hunting, I think it would encourage new players to explore more if we eliminated the EXP penalty for mob deaths below rank 10 and severely limited the penalty for mob deaths between level 10 and level 30. 30 - 50 should remain the same.

I think Mali's suggestion is worth serious consideration.

Great Idea!!!

But i advise to put a message stating that at Higher levels the price is larger.

Like:

"The gods take pitty on your inexperience and spare you the loss of Knolege."

Agreed. Good idea Mali.

I think the only people that have problems at such low levels are the people that don't put trains into the first "useless" spells. With burning hands you do quite a bit of damage, sure it won't be used at later levels, but it is very useful at the first ranks.

I consider wands/staves useless at low levels, anything to help physical survival comes first.

The wands that are useful at lower levels, such as the elemental canyon ones, cannot be gotten pre-10.

Burning hands can deal decimates if they fail the save. Now you figure an average mage can cast 10ish burning hands before starting to get low on mana.

300 damage. Now in arena thats great, bump to rats/oozes/snails/runaways

who have higher saves (I realize it is only 1 or 2 more, but they also have more HP and will make those saves) Now a lowbie caster does not clear 100 hp, and those hit for consistant injures with low hp and no defenses. So your trying to deal 20ish damage a round, factor in that you can only have an 80% max in burning hands/shocking grasp at low levels so you are losing concentration and not dealing max damage. You are in for alot of fleeing, resting, and overall unenjoyable hunt because of the size of our pbase.

Re:Mali

That is a damn good idea, DAMN good. Maybe even make it so your 61 lives don't start dropping til 10 as well.

The spell exp was lowered after I broke it in early 2.0, when I went from 1-42 in 7 hrs. from spamming ALONE. I wanted to prove to Viri it could be broken.

Going back to more exp per spell would invite the same thing. However, it was changed to higher exp first 10 ranks, then lowered to normal that would be fine.

Heh, I remember doing that on a Duergar Cleric. It only worked for the dumber races, though. I feel training spells should still be a viable ranking option, just not as quickly as before. And balanced out so the higher int races don't get shafted in this department.

I was an elf cleric

How could you level off casting that fast without gimping your mana? There isn't too much gear that lowers int, afaik.

I never lowered my int

I'm confused how that would gimp your mana?

I'm lost in that statement too. o.o

?

Because it's much faster to level from casting when you only practice your spells to 30%. It took me about 8 hours from 1-45 that way. If you start with every spell at 75%, it seems to me you'd master everything too quickly and not gain much xp in the process.
