To not take forever
Gates
Used to be instant. I think it was player call that made it change.

I think a firm 2 tick gate would be perfect. It takes away the lameness of auto-gating....and still leaves that margin of wait....just without the eternal agony of those 4 tick ones.
Seconded

I oppose this decision. The uncertainty of the gate is what makes it ineffective in any unknown situation, I think it should stay.
There's a reason gates aren't used by anyone over the thirtieth rank. You wanna sit there and die, go for it. Or you can get some excersize.

Wholeheartedly agree. It definately adds a "risk" factor to taking a gate, when you're sat there after three ticks and you still haven't gone yet, thinking "HURRY!" because that big nasty DK has just come in town.
You do get the flipside too, where you pay the golem and then straight away are teleported.
I think it's fine as it is.

and sometimes the insta-port messes me up when getting ready to at least try to stomp on someone in miruvhor from val and i forgot to pop a few last pills and/or recite whatever and/or cast something first. all in all though i like how it is, but could see the appeal for a uniform time.
And so, that is another risk of taking the gate. If you don't want to take the risk, run it.
If ou use the gate, you get ease of travel at the cost of certain risks.
If you run, you have slightly longer, more time-consuming travel, without the risks involved with using the gate.
Dey
Depending on how long the gate takes, running could actually be a lot faster.
..i wasn't saying insta-trans I was saying a 2 tick trans and that would be much more convinient.
The one thing I do like about the randomness is how lucky you get sometimes. I was chasing someone once, and he went through the forsakenlands. I hopped a gate, was over in like three seconds, and he got a nasty surprise when he ran into Rheydin.![]()
..i think everyone is misinterpreting what i'm saying.
I know what you're saying. Two-tick wait would make it convenient, whilst still having that "wait" factor.
I (just my own personal opinion) just feel it is fine, or better, to have it as it is now, with the randomness aspect to it. If you want convenient, reliable travel, use your legs, otherwise, the gate is there for the lazy. As for other uses, ie. not being lazy but running low on moves from PK, well, the randomness is pretty good there IMO - will you have the Wait of Doom that makes you wait ages, that will get you killed, or will you strike it lucky and escape on the next tick?
Dey
I am saying still have the randomnes factor but have the top wait be 2-3 ticks.
I still disagree. The longer wait times are not common enough to make using the portals not worth your while.
I think more than anything, the delay makes the Gates of most use for newer players who want to get between towns and haven't quite figured the routes yet. I don't think there should be some sort of "convenient" transport around Aabahran. I very rarely use the gates unless I need to travel between towns and I am low on moves, for the reason that if I do, I might luck out and be waiting a LONG time - which is the chance you take for taking the 'lazy' way out. And I like that.
Again, it's just my opinion. Not saying it's a bad idea, just saying that I personally prefer it as it is.
Dey
Sometimes the long wait is preferable for regaining hp/mana/moves.
meh.
