I propose that there be a limit to how much text can be put before saying things. People are going overboard with text before and it wordwraps at random places during sentances and is plain ugly. There is also no reason to do it before every sentance unless it is a way of speaking, and if it is, please at least make it short.
Smote
I've never seen it as much of a problem, but maybe we've just met different people.
I've seen it be a problem like that, i kinda like this but I see the problems with it
Are you kidding? Why don't we just do away with rp all together...
I like to make my chars do things as they speak. Ie:
pmote look at as a grin spreads across his face and he says, "Oh, I am sure you'll be fine, just hang in there, old boy."
or
pmote glances over at for a moment before looking down at his feet and says, "Oh...uh...fancy meeting you here...how..err...pleasent." and scuttling off northward.;n
I think this is more about people's writing styles, not how they RP. Martineius rarely used emotes before says... He managed.

I do that a lot too Warpnow but I try to keep them short unless a larger one is needed for whatever reason. I bet you have the same problem that I do, where once you start doing it, it actually becomes a habit where almost every time you speak, it's a custom-written emote say, and sometimes it won't even fit the occassion....I just can't help it. They aren't needed for RP, I agree, and I agree that some awesome RPers don't use them that much, but I personally have just got into the habit of using them, and can't stop...if anything, I've learnt to type pretty fast because of using bespoke emotes and such for talking. ![]()
If a limit was imposed though, it wouldn't be the best if someone wanted to do a one-off, long emote/smote/pmotesay for whatever reason.

My problem is with people like this:
Blood drips onto the ground from 's fangs as he says in a rasping, yet youthful tone, ' Hello.'
Blood drips onto the ground from 's fangs as he says in a rasping, yet youthful tone, 'How are you doing?'
Blood drips onto the ground from 's fangs as he says in a rasping, yet youthful tone, 'I am doing good.'
Blood drips onto the ground from 's fangs as he says in a rasping, yet youthful tone, 'I think I may go hunting..but I'm not sure yet.'
Blood drips onto the ground from 's fangs as he says in a rasping, yet youthful tone, 'What are you going to do?'
I get the point. I have a huge problem with people trying to role-play like that. Half the time, they don't even punctuate. I mean come on, this is overkill. There is no reason to do this over and over.
I agree. That can't be fixed by code though. People just need to set up several say aliases. Some long, some very short.
The same ones over and over are boring. I use them alot, but I use different ones. IE:
emote smiles at the joke and says, " blapldhfs
emote frowns at the comment and says, " lsdfj;slid
Stuff like that. It helps when you actually REACT to the comments made with expressions. Its good rp too.
You guys seem to misunderstand me. I like variety of smotes before says, I dislike monotony and the same one over and over, especially when it's an entire line before the actual sentance. I don't like to dig through a pile crap to find the one good kernal of corn.
You dig through crap for corn? Gross....
I see what you mean. I agree, I don't like to see what you describe all the time, just one, long, descriptive smote/emote line used as a replacement to say. But I don't think it could be fixed via code, like somebody already mentioned. To limit the amount of characters before the 'say' portion of a smote/emote/pmote would hinder those who want to write a one-off smote/emote when talking as well as those who just have that 'Cape flapping, Bob says in a loud, fast voice that appears to have a somewhat jesting tone to it, "Hey dudes".'

Bob speaks with an elegant, yet superior tone, saliva dripping slowly from his already deformed, scarred mouth, "Hello.." before hacking loudly and spitting all over the ground.
Bob speaks with an elegant, yet superior tone, saliva dripping slowly from his already deformed, scarred mouth, "Would you like to hunt with me?" before hacking loudly and spitting all over the ground.
Bob speaks with an elegant, yet superior tone, saliva dripping slowly from his already deformed, scarred mouth, "I may have found a third." before hacking loudly and spitting all over the ground.
Bob speaks with an elegant, yet superior tone, saliva dripping slowly from his already deformed, scarred mouth, "At the tombs of course." before hacking loudly and spitting all over the ground.
THAT is what I hate. However, simple ones like..
Bob says dryly "Join us?"
Bob says dryly "Me and so-and-so?"
Bob says dryly "Okay."
Or like..
In a hoarse tone, Bob says "Hello."
In a hoarse tone, Bob says "Howdie doodie?"
(A little long, but acceptable.)
Or best of all..
Bob huffs, "Hey!"
Bob huffs, "NO! You can't do that! Give it back!"
Bob huffs, "You jerk!"
Bob huffs, and blows Jills house down.
Bob huffs, "Hah!"
Small one word descriptive adjectives do nicely. It's nice to see something other than, Bob says "blah" every time you RP with someone.
