Locked Phases of Nercuros

Nercuros

I would like suggestions, if any, on what people would like to see the Moons in Aabahran do. Currently, they are deeply significant to the planet, yet rarely used in anything but only the history and a few select players. Everyone else seems to not even consider FL really even having moons as there is nothing code side.

I've started a Moon Phases code skeleton, allowing Nercuros to run through its phases over an FL month and if anyone has ideas, without them being overpowered, on what these phases of the moon(s) can do please post them.

Current Ideas:

--------------

  • A full moon negates the requirement for a LIGHT at night.
  • Tie in the full moon with certain classes/races.
  • A full moon 'could' act as a 'mini sun' to Vampires.
  • Magic could be affected by the phases?

Edit: This code allows you to or to see what phase the moon is in. Depending on the phase or other factors the ideas come into play.

Edit2: Once a few good ideas are chosen, I'll implement them into my code and send it to Behrens to see if he approves with adding it.

Interesting idea. I like the concept of tying in the moons with mechanics and RP, as in the FL universe/storyline/history, the three moons are supposed to play a major, major role.

we have a moon or moons?

Hoo boy.

Lunar Triad

AKA: We have 3.

And I'm coding them. For people like you. BEAMS

WOW, maybe I need to visit the damn homepage every once in a while.

I'm pretty sure there isn't anything about it on the World of Warcraft homepage.

In Aabahran, demons come from the moon. Hence the name of my new demon app: Iignignoktant.

In all seriousness, this is a great freaking idea Fiv. Even if nothing progresses beyond the not-needing-a-light at night stage I'd say go for it. If Beh likes your code and can easily impliment it then we all win. If you get passed over, that would suck, but atleast you tried, right?

Extra idea? Sea area move cost increased and decreased with the waxing and waning of the moons.

Hrmm, it's hard to state the benefits of just one moon without considering all of them. If you are evil, the black moon should benefit you (slightly - as in, better mana/hp/move regen at night - nothing that makes any class deal more damage unless it's a spell that pulls its power directly from the moon) whereas a full white moon should weaken you (slightly less hp/mana regen). Or give saves. Generally, what I don't want to see are any more classes getting any more special abilities because of a moon phase.

Sounds awesome to me. Like Raargant said, the moons play a major role in the theme of the world.

And because Nercuros isn't the only moon, you can multiply the complexity of it all by three.

yeah! let's give you more work!

In all seriousness, I did not know of the moons, and this is a great idea.

Wow. Do NONE of you read the history Virigoth wrote? I loved it when I read it.

I'll post some suggestions later.

I always thought moons should aid magic, as in increased mana regen on aligment corresponding to certain phase of moon of that aligment.

Also you could have it affect some holy spells, things like wrath, ray of thruth, path of deception or dispel good/evil, redmarkered.

But dont over do it , something higher than 10% boost to damge would disrupt damage terrible.

After all we do no wish people running around in circle at night because of some overpowered spell.

If you can Flag the moon position, so that you can have special events happening at certain conjunctions. If you want an idea, have eatch moon have a numerical flag from 0-100 or 0-60 as in a clock, or 0-360 as a degree possition around the world.

Then you can have event trigering at for example a triangular patern, using degree coordinates, with a moon at possition 0, the other at 120 and the third one at 240. This forms a triangle conjunction.

You also use the 3 moons at zero position to trigger another event.

..........O........

....................

....... (FL).......

....................

....O..........O..

Like this the 0-120-240.

This would be even more interesting if the moons moved at diferent speed throw the sky.

Then you could make nice events, like demons faling throw the sky at moons conjunctions. Things that only happen once in a blue moon as Death Head.

Or make a unique weapon fall from the sky with a global message.

Or a quest ritual that can only be performed at a cetain moons aligment.

Or you could revamp some druid spells for moons thing.

And spells akin to prismatic ray, having the collors based on it.

And Avatars being able to not be blasphemied 100% during certain moon phase.

And certain Quest race/class ??? losing one of its vulnerabilities on moon phase.

Celestial event refreshing divine intervention limitation from affects.

You could even code things for divine intervention with the Moons.

Thanks for all the good ideas Mya.

Would people like a graphical display of the 3 moons?

EXAMPLE:

@ - Aabahran

    • Nercuros
    • Dyphrities
    • Lysenties
......*..........
.................
........@........
..*..............
............*....

Positions would change depending on the month.

I like the DI idea for moon phase, but I really, really like the idea of tweaking druid stuff for moon phase. I think that fits really well. Don't know exactly what it would be, but I like it.

Keep in mind that the moons are primarily tied to magic, not faith.

I personally thought druids communed to Gaia herself for their spells, thats how I always thought about it at least. Well I too think druid spells which use the moon is really neat too. I haven't any ideas just yet, I'll think of some though.

Currently she looks something like this:

Gold:2613 TNL:309 16:00
look moons
You look into the infinite and see..
Nercuros glows brightly within the sky. It is a 'Full Moon.'
N
(@)
D
L
Gold:2613 TNL:309 16:00

Nercuros(N) circles Aabahran(@) as the month changes. With N on the far left it is just rising into the sky, at the top(shown here) it is a Full moon, then opposite side it is waning. Right now there are 8 positions for each of the 3 moons, successfully letting Nercuros wax and wane. Implementing all 3 of the moons will add on another 8 positions to complete 360* around the planet: making it 16 positions for each moon. But the code only 'tracks' the current visible moon. By this example, after N wanes, Dyphrities(D) would start its visible run and be the 'new' moon in the sky.

One of my characters had rp to do with one of the moons.
