'Slight of hand'

SLIGHT OF HAND

Syntax: AUTOMATIC

This ability lets the thief or bard, as they are browsing the shop to slip an item into their pocket when the owner is not paying attention.

Kind of like Extortion for bards and thives, I noticed they can't steal from shops, strange..eh?

I'd like to add to the helpfile.

Though the shop owners tend to watch their more expensive merchandise religiously. Items of higher price that disappear tend to put the Merchant into a frenzy attacking the thief or bard with blatant disregard for laws or even their own life.

I like it.

It's sleight of hand.

You can steal items of limited quantity from stores.

IE, items that have been sold.

I like it, but would only give it at high ranks...I DON'T want to see a bunch of low lvl thieves testing it out and dying.

Only problem is, there is no way certain shopkeeps can really be beaten. They will destroy you as a thief.

I don't think it should be automatic... just a type of steal from a shopkeep...

syntax: slight

So that if you really don't want to even try to get into a fight with the shopkeep you dont have to, and if you do get caught it might be worth your time if it is the right item.

Perhaps make it instead so that the shopkeeper sends a note to Tribunal that you've stolen from them, and when the next Tribunal logs on, you get wanted.

make people autowanted for theft if they fail.

How about the shopkeeper stops selling to the thief after they fail, and uses ninja like skill to push them out from the store?

I agree with UB!

Syntax: Shoplift

In retrospect, the idea of making it so you become wanted isn't sufficient. After all, what would happen if you tried to steal from a shopkeeper in a non-lawful city, IE Gal Ranidon or Xymerria?

Hmm. I like the idea, but it would take some thinking to produce a fair/balanced version of it.

Almost seems like a version of extort for thieves

The last thing thieves need is free potions/scrolls.

Proof that thieves do NOT need anything else. (Not saying they need to be toned down, just saying they sure don't need to be toned up)

The antimagic springs!

The force field shielding you collapses.

You can no longer sense magical auras.

You are no longer invisible.

You no longer see invisible objects.

The world seems to grow larger as you regain normal size.

Your field of increased gravity fades away.

Your link to the deadly scythes weakens and breaks.

The terra shield loses its sentience.

The dense cusion of air around you dissapates.

Your definition returns to your physical self.

Your skin feels soft again.

You feel yourself speed up.

Your force shield shimmers then fades away.

You feel less armored.

You go to sleep.

You have been KILLED!!

As the cold chill of death descends upon you Someone grants you yet another chance.

You have been granted a temporary sanctuary as an invincible ghost.

As long as you don't attack anything.

About the log.. Thieves are designed to kill mages, and you need more saves.

My original post was more of a joke.. But since you all liked it I have some possibe yells for failed attempts.

Merchant yells, " you hooligan! Get that out of your pocket!"

Merchant yells, "Take this ! You juvenile shoplifter!"

Though i'm pretty sure UB meant this more to be exactly like extort, and it makes sense.. Though my addition sure as hell would spice things up.

and no, the merchant can't be killed. Merchants are buff as hell, and would spell certain death to the thief (hence the joke). Though I did see the vampire savant, Elloran kill the jewelry merchant in val before.

I'm aware they are designed to kill mages, hence why I said they don't need to be toned down, but they have plenty of nifty stuff, they don't need more. And I have as good of saves as I can get at my lvl...but the thief has eight ranks on me I believe. Saves don't help much with that kind of disadvantage.

8 ranks!? Wow, your lucky you even survived the backstab.

This wouldn't necessairly be a tone up. Just a nifty little skill that suites thieves/bards.

Something for Behrens to do when he gets bored of fixing bugs, coding cabals, qclass/qraces, etc etc.

Reminds me of all my battles with Azantar. Well, lets rephrase that. Reminds me of all the rapings I took from Azantar.

Yea...

Azantar's backstab does UNSPEAKBLE THINGS to you!

Azantar's second backstab does UNSPEAKABLE THINGS to you!

Azantar's slice *** DEMOLISHES *** you!

Azantar's flaming bite MANGLES you!

You have been KILLED!!
