Bards

It seems to me that something is in order to even them out a tad, namely something along the lines of lag protection. Here's my idea: make it so that brawl gives you a chance (hopefully a fairly significant one) to dodge a bash/bodyslam/trip. If that's too powered, there are several ways to tone it down: only in city-type areas, not trip, etc. Anyone concur?

I kinda like that idea.

Then again, I just like bards.

Honestly ... c'mon, man, you decided to play a bard. Back in the good ol' days (cough) if you were a bard and somebody decided to kill you ... you were just dead. No ifs ands or buts. 'Cause you were a bard. If you wanna PK, don't play a freakin bard!!! I still don't understand the changes to the bard class. It was originally a pure RP class ... one that most people wouldn't even bother to PK, as they never wore any armor, and therefore weren't worth the time. They wrote notes, they participated in RP plots, they did all kinds of things that were awesome ... but they didn't PK. If someone came after them to PK them, they ran away, and hid near one of the many, many friends they had, as bards always had friends, because that's all they did. Now, if you want to make a char purely to RP ... well, I guess you can still make a bard, 'cause personally I don't have any interest in killing them ... otherwise you can make a healer, 'cause they're along the same lines but a lot easier to keep alive. Bards were always cooler though 'cause you could associate with the evils, too ... it was always fun to group with a bard way back when, 'cause you never knew when whatever you were doing was going to be impressive enough they'd feel the desire to write some sweet sounding scroll to everyone talking about what you were doing. Personally I think they need to strip the bard class of all its combat abilities (throws doing ===DISINTEGRATES===??? WTF????) and take it back to the class that drove a lot of RP interactions. But that's just me ... I only played a bard once, and it was generally just the char I played when I was drinking But it was FUN ... hilarious even ... and I always enjoyed it. Anyways, if people think bards should be beefed up ... fine. But I think the fact that they can't hold their own in PK is what defines them as a class, and changing that, in my opinion, detracts from the game. But, then again, I'm not playing one right now.

Bards are supposed to be a PK-viable class now.

Yeah, yeah, I know ... and that's the imms' call. But still, I kinda miss playing a char that had absolutely no chance of winning a PK. Of course, that was back when I was getting killed nonstop every time I got in a fight, on any character ... but still, it was always fun.

As I have said before, I think it would be cool if like clerics, bards hard a path change they could make at rank 25, and become Minstrels, which would be similar to old bards.

A point on the suggestion - brawl only works in the cities, and in the cities, the people who will be giving you a problem are the hiding classes. And those guys are going to assassinate/blackjack you first. That being said, I'll never argue against something that makes bards more survivable. Particularly since this would help against rangers, whose pets were the bane of my bardic existence.

Re Sina: Bards are still as far as I can tell something of a hallowed class, mainly because of how people play them out (including plenty of neutral/evil interactions). All the pinn'd bards I've met have been equally rp-driving, so that hasn't changed either.

By the way, bards were never a non-pking class. They just died a hell of a lot more easily than they do now. There were cool *elements *to the old bards, but don't make them out to be from some kind of "glory days".

(PS: Just throwing disintegrates? You need better cards, my dear. )

Gah, they can do better than that? That's sick, man ... just sick.

I like that, even though I dislike/hate bards.

Bards are awsome, and are pk viable as they are right now. I had a post back last time I played of as a new bard winning a pk hands down. Yes they do not have lag or lag protection. But they have so much more. I'd say how to win with a bard in pk but I don't want to give away my secrets. >< I'm tempted now to ditch my current project and rolling up a neutral bard just to prove it to all of you. But I will hold off for now.

Win with a bard in PK? Look at Warbul he ate people for breakfast and still had room for flapjacks.

You know, I once made a halfling bard right before they were changed. I abandoned him after the changes were made because I didn't want to learn a new class halfway through the one I had.

That character never made it passed the twenties, but he was still one of my top three characters, and the other two were such because they had such a long time to develope (lvl 45 human paladin, 39 stone berserker).

I think the only thing I ever really did with that character was play counselor to tantangels ogre berserker (which he deleted the next day ) but it was still one of the more fun characters I've had.

As for the point of this post. . .I don't know. I can't give out all the answers, so go away!

Edit: I guess the point is that I still haven't made another for fear of what has been done to them. I realize that it's probably unfounded, but most fears are.

Tantangel is the man.

There are quite a few pinn or near pinn bard projects going right now. (Korinta?, Lwywyn?, Pip, and probably 2 others I'm missing)(Sorry, I butcher names) I say give those people time to play out what they have and hopefully we'll get a better idea on how the bard class handles itself.

I know a few bards are out there to probably PK a bit. Ferious had some crazy 'kill all' RP, though I haven't seen him in a while, and Pip is in Battle clan, so my guess is it's to fight.

As for the idea. I say hold off. Not a lot of bards have been played to 50 so there isn't info collective info on them for people to be guessing/deciding.

Korthian's a pinned bard as well.

As has been said before... Warbul is not a good example of a bard doing well in PK. He could protect himself with cabal skills from people who'd pound him flat without a sweat, and won really only in challenge matches against not too well equipped people.

I don't even know what to think about Korthian. He's weird. He scares me.

Hes more of an arms dealer than a bard, cool cat if you ask me.

Yeah, that's kinda the impression I got ... but still ... something about him, scares me

Well, if you met an arms dealer irl, would you be completely at ease?
