What if we let every character alter any of their base stats buy +- 1 in creation. Of course if you add 1 somewhere you have to subtract 1 from something else.
This would go a long way in diversifying various combos.
The logic behind this idea is that stats are based on a group average but there is definitely a range amidst each race.
An elf warrior for example might boost str and con by 1 at the cost of minus 1 int and wis.
On the other hand a fire giant cleric might sacrifice 1 str and con for an additional int and wis.
idk, i bet over time you would then find a normalized trade off. For example, hp is highly obtainable in game. I would dump a con point for a dex on an avian any day. Or you could rreally tilt some blm play. Doesn't drow get 24 dex? then they could bump to 25, then have a 25/25 shadow dancer. It would be the halfling problem all over again.
This would also heavily favor melee. Whose stats really matter. Whats 1 con to a mage vs a 26 str ogre?
...Drow and Elf blademasters gain +1 dex and +1 con. They also gain mastery in dodge, vigil, and meditation. In addition, their critical strikes land with 20% more accuracy. Blademaster Guildmasters no longer recognize humans & gnomes as candidates for training.Drow and Elf Blademasters learn anatomi...

true so you would be making them capable of 26 dex. Thats insane lol. Trade that extra con point for it.

Drow BLMs might get 25 DEX like halflings did, but halflings were also magic resist, 20 CON and had no vuln other than being small sized. Halflings could also go good and get avatar. So there's more to it than just the stats.
