Disallow Evil from Tribunal

Requesting itself is detrimental. An evil or neutral can kill the mob in a matter of seconds. Requests can take far longer than that, damage you, and calm you. Requesting an item is far riskier than just going and getting it. How many times have you been killed because you got caught Requesting? It's definitely a con and not a pro.

I don't know if I'm conditioned to playing evils, but I find it a con if a random goodie has an item I want. Can't kill him, can't loot him. Gotta wait for it to go back into circulation.

  1. Tribunal = Lawful Only Cabal
  2. Tribunal first L was a Vampire

Maybe you need to stop thinking of the Tribunal as the NYPD and start thinking more like the KGB.

Maybe you need to stop thinking of them as the KGB and start thinking of them as the NYPD. :D

I am not suggesting that tribunal as it exists now should exclude evils, but rather that it be changed to be a good/neutral only cabal. I think the rp potential and game mechanics there are better.

Most pk is focused on cabal wars. The protection goods get is very minimal. Most evils don't randomly kill each other.

As said, requesting is on average worse than killing the mob. Even an L/E good to request items has to basically put themselves in a low hp position with no spells because the request lasts longer than most affects. Fighting the mob you can avoid that risk.

I still don't see why nixing a cabal choice for evils that actually adds flavor is a good thing.

Having a cabal tailored towards ethos over align is very important. As well, it would actually hamstring Tribunal, as their role as a cabal involves having two enemies. Without numbers, Tribunal doesn't stand much of a chance.

Politicians are dirty, cops are dirty. Wanna take it to fantasy terms? Dukes and court advisers are dirty, town guard is dirty. Evil tribunal fits perfectly and has very deep RP potential.

I don't agree with the proposed idea. A lot of potential with evils in Tribunal. Especially fun with evils, neutrals, and goods in the same cabal battling for political position and control. We have seen some of this very recently and it is fun to witness.

Instead of limiting evil choices, maybe think of a way to expand good choices?

Sheriff of Nottingham

Adolf Hitler is probably considered Lawful Evil.

Progressive thought.

The cruel and evil actions of dictators of the Empire slowly disenchanted the public opinion of the Tribunal at large. As a result the people lost faith in the city guards to protect them, many citizens cited the total destruction of two of the three major cities as cause for protest. Even the most lawful good natured people found themselves unable to defend the allegations leveled at the oppressive officers. Over time the kind hearted people just stopped joining the militia all together, knowing that they will ultimately be inflicting cruelty by simply following orders. Many of the more balanced individuals who even worshipped Zoichan himself, began to distance themselves from the Militia and its evil Leadership in hope of a less cruel future.

War,  Famine, and Death continued to plague the cities of Aabahran. Many of the citizens were beginning to believe the Gods had abandoned them do to their love of this ideal of brotherhood so often referred to as the Empire. Other lawful citizens began to believe that their lack of interest in the criminal element of Aabahran had lead them to certain doom. A few individuals met one night under three crescent moons. They discussed the problems in society, and the troubles within the militia itself. They spoke of the hardships of the people so often taken advantage of by the Evil Overlords and Greedy Merchants. Deciding something must be done they banded together to create a new clan.

Clan: Vigilante

Cabal: Agent

Agents go after anyone with a bounty or wanted flag. Criminals of the people should be dealt with harshly if society is to thrive in they eyes of the Gods once more.

Subcabal: Enforcer

Adjudicator/Preatorian like skills.

No guards but would steal a crusader prayer for one of their skills. After all, the people love them.

Subcabal: SecretAgent

Subteruge skills.

Something for concealment, and enhanced vision/hearing, and an exit plan.

Must be lawful.

Must not be evil.

(thinking out loud again, sorry)

@Fool_Hardy Very, very similar to the cabal reorganization concept I outlined in 2009:

Empire (dominance of Aabahran) vs. Forsaken (destruction of Aabahran) vs. Gaia (preservation of Aabahran)

Praetorian + Sigil = Knight (subcabal) - Finally achieving a balance between offense and defense, the Knights seek to preserve existing civilization, to banish the invaders, and to bring safety to the countryside. They are the military arm of the Empire. Due to their success in finding the crown emperor, they have been divinely empowered. To maintain their piety, they are required to fight their battles as single challenges. Lawful + Good only. No rogues.

Syndicate + Adjudicator = Agency (subcabal) - With the incorporation of the Syndicate into the Empire, the Syndicate's efficiency was quickly merged with the Adjudicator's idealism, creating a brutal, covert force able and very willing to do all the dirty work that needs to be done to keep the Empire running smoothly. Non-lawful + Evil only.

Herald + Council = Council (subcabal) - the enlightened oligarchic leadership of the new Empire tasked with preserving civilization and its collected knowledge. They serve a dual political-historical role, guiding both the Agency and the Knights and marking criminals. Any ethos + neutral align only. WIS + INT = 40+ races only. RP-intensive role.

Knight + Agency + Council = Empire (cabal) - Risen from the broken Tribunal and based in Rheydin, the Empire's primary goals are to defend, rebuild, and expand itself. Not fanatically concerned with law, they are more interested in results. They are ever pragmatic, using both straight force (Knight) and underhanded force (Agency). The two opposite forces are kept in check and guided into the correct future by the ever-watchful leadership (Council).

Forsaken and Gaia outlined in the link.

Key points here:

  • 3 subcabals, not 2. Same amount of subcabal choices as now, but more chance to have intracabal RP due to less cabals.
  • Less cabals also means more chance you won't be alone in your cabal (online or otherwise).
  • Multiple aligns in the same cabal, consistent ideology by subcabal -- cabals set the theme and overall goal, subcabal determines the method/ideology.
  • Herald as the political head, giving power and strength to an otherwise 'empty, worthless' cabal.
  • RP is consistent with FL lore.
  • Eliminates a lot of mechanical align/ethos and ideological issues that plague cabals today while still allowing the RP tensions enabled by them.

I really like the idea of consolidating cabals into something better managed like your suggestion @Celerity.

Seems every cabal I've joined (Except for Knights-Rheinian) I was the only one I'd see for days at a time. I'm experiencing the same thing again in my current cabal. Less cabal means more interaction, more reason to rp, more people to group with and more larger scale battles where you feel like you're making a difference. I love 3v3, 2v2 fights where you know if you log out, your partner is boned, you're each depending on one another.

I see a warmaster, a tribunal, a watcher, a syndicate ect. But hardly anymore then one at a time. With three cabals you know that when you log in you're either going to have a group to get wears/rp or be fighting for the whole session. Love it.

I do like the huge cabal system too, but unfortunately muds as a whole are dying, and we don't have the pbase to support it anymore. Just my opinion.

I too think that smaller may be better. Maybe 3 active cabals that are very active is the kind of excitement that generates more attention.

A week ago the cabal numbers looked more exciting than they have in a long time.

Some time requirements will be missed. Some numbers will shrink.

But it is still exciting to see so many caballed characters.

The three coalitions seems a nice plan. Maybe Four is Better.

What if I could be a;

Gladiator, Barbarian, Mysterum, Temporum, Merchant, Herald, Adjudicator, Councilor, Sigil or Praetorian in the Knights

Gladiator, Barbarian, Mysterum, Temporum, Hunter, Merchant, Adjudicator, Councilor, Reaver or Pandamonium in Nexus
