Bring back 23 dex to sliths

Make sliths great again :)

Edited

When was this changed?

I don't recall a time it was, but I haven't played many sliths at all.  Assuming it did, it was before September 2006.

Wasn't this with the major slith overhaul/nerf that divided them into three separate slith races (one per alignment)? I remember there was a slith avatar warrior that was pretty renowned, but not sure if he had all the slith abilites (dirt immunity, swallow corpses, camouflage).

Yup, sliths got all slith abilitiies and they've been nerfed. Currently I do not see why not bring 23 dex back to them, since they won't be that strong without all 3 slith abilities and will be much more fun playing with 23 dex war for example.

They used to be a nasty choice for blademaster but they feel a bit lack luster since the elf/drow blademaster changes.  I still think they should be able to be monks and rangers.

Hehehe.

"Balanced"

Thematically it makes no sense why they can't be rangers at least. Slith is just akin to nature as werebeast, could easily see them as rangers that guard swamps or something.

You wanna get autotripped by three pets, a charmie and now the ranger?

I'd go tracker so I can throw shields and add insult to injury.

What would be the difference in fighting a slith ranger with no flight vs an ogre or Halfling one?

You are absolutely right.

Balance wise, no.

[offtopic] Why do you post with such small font? It makes it harder to read....

It would be easier to triplock your opponent.

You are right that it's already quite easy to do so. So why make it even easier?

If you still have doubts, ask yourself if it would be balanced to open sliths be monks. But Seeing that you already suggested that, I guess it's futile to argue on the matter?

Btw we did have some slith monks in Gladiator in Halloween Madness last year. Hopefully, we'll have some this year too, so you can see how "balanced" they are.

Also, we've already had a slith ranger before (in no other but Warder), and he had to give up some key skills.

Dale was being sarcastic I believe.

I actually only suggest monks because I'm pretty sure they could originally be monks.

I didn't know they ever had 23 dex. I don't know when the last time I saw a slith was.

Touchy subject with them being monks. I do not know the reasoning behind that particular change. The 23 drop in dex happened around the time blade masters developed if I remember correctly. Not sure why that change was made either.

Slith remains a good race to play even without the monk class or the 23 dex, so it could be argued that it was for balance, I just do not remember ever hearing a reason.

I do remember how bad it sucked being autotripped going into shakra rounds. But, again, never heard any official reason for removing the monk class. TBH, can not remember if Aabahran had slith monks beyond 1.0

Other similar worlds continue to offer the slith access to that guild, perhaps the change could have been made to distinguish ourselves. Who knows?

I think races with certain perks were balanced by having weak stats.

Slith having the tail and shed plus align perk was balanced by having low int/wis.

Elf charm resist and autosneak was balanced by having very low con.

Huge ogre hp pool and regen was balanced by huge vuln.

Part of the balance problems right now lie in the additional factor of EXP penalty.

I think exp penalty is no longer a good balancing factor since the game is played almost exclusively at 50 and its so easy to get there.

Another problem with the old balance is that EQ can cover a lot of the cons leaving special races with just pros.

For example, elves of all classes can easily run around with well over 1k HP, so is there actually any downside to playing an elf? (besides the iron vuln)

EQ can be used to give massive amounts of saves or even give some resistances, so an ogre dressed correctly is clearly better than any other option in certain circumstances.

Similarly with fast training times, the low int/wis of slith is somewhat compensated for since you can 1 prac them to mastery which helps make up the 2 prac per level weakness.

So because of all this I am uncertain if slith actually need a buff? I think the slith alignment perks are not equal, but that is supposedly balanced by alignment issues which is another matter altogether.
