Spell training is arguably the most boring part of the game imho. I don't play many mages for that reason. And for arguments sake I'm going to keep this short and sweet. What I'm suggesting would allow you to put a certain amount of mana into a spell which would probably add a hefty amount of lag per cast but would increase your proficiency much more than a single regular cast would. Boom, I'm done.
mana infuse spells to train faster
There's some + spelllearn gear around.
I do enjoy playing hybrids/casters. What's a good place to start looking for spelllearn gear (I think there used to be some in Winter, but is there any around for lower levels)?
Whip of the Magi (Iggilwiv [Faction of Magic]) is the only spelllearn item I know.
Similarly, Master's Handwraps (Iron-Fist Xiaowang [Monastary])is the only skilllearn item I know.
I understand what you mean, Dale. But skills are just as tedious, too. To apply something like that to just spells is unfair.
And there's always the Hardcore tier. x1.5 training.
Skills are so easy though, I think it's actually really unfair.
Spells are pretty easy too. The slith jailer in Falen Dara can be used for any non damaging spell, warrior medics in the keep north of maelbrim are immune to poison and plague. Damaging spells are easily enough trained while you level or on high hp/low output mobs, and area spells can be spammed anywhere. Teleport and word can be trained anywhere cursed.
Training has always been the biggest downside of this game. Both skills and spells are not fun in any way to train. It's always been an option to just not do it, but then you're nerfing yourself permanently. Hardcore characters getting a training boost is really awesome, but I will freely admit that I am not good enough to play a hardcore character. If I did sure I'd get a training boost but I would be condead in weeks.
Many of us are also in a different place than we were twelve or so years ago. Back then time was more loose and it wasn't as big of a deal to sink hours into training. Now the responsibilities of age allow less time for that.
I feel like this sounds much more negative than I mean it too. I'm loving the game in it's current state, but maybe I'm just becoming a crusty old man and all you damn kids need to get off my lawn!
One thing that would be a huge boost maybe would be if someone knowledgeable enough could make a training guide. A list of where to train what (a common cursed room, common sleeping mobs, common cursed weapon and shield mobs if they exist idk etc) and how to keep yourself safe while doing so. I feel like at this point this information should be free as it is completely necessary at this point and you're gimped without it, especially with how knowledgeable people seem to be these days and really how good so many of you guys are!
Training has ever been easier honestly. Most mage races are already high Int so you start at 75% with 1 practice and can spam your way to mastery in literally no time.
10 years ago I trained a fire giant shaman from 1 practice and it took a ridiculous amount of time, then I realized what a garbo combo it was and deleted.
Nowadays I just do not see any reason to complain about this. And I don't see how you think skills are easier to train than spells in general...
People who complain about training have never really played many RPGs.
The grinding required in some hardcore RPGs is nothing compared to here.
Actually, the time requirement needed in this game to enter endgame content has been reduced so drastically that I honestly believe it's hurting the game.
There have been some very recent examples of characters that have been at pinnacle for less than 2 weeks and are either Trusteds, rolling the playerbase, decked to their teeth or all of those.
Tell me in which other game can you get to the very top of the food chain in less than 2 weeks?
Even in non-RPGs you still have to grind through various ranking systems with multiple ladders.
Here - nope. You can literally roll a character and be at pinnacle and fully trained in less than 2 days.
if you are skilled in both PK and RP you will be a decked Veteran in less than a week.
It's just ridiculous that some people are still complaining.
That being said if anyone is unsure the best way to train a given skill/spell feel free to PM me. I consider myself pretty good and efficient when it comes to training and I would be happy to help anyone who is struggling or feels there is a faster way they do not know about.

I got the Star Wars MMO for my birthday back when it was new. Before I had to subscribe to the game (you get 30 days for free), I had reached max level, joined a guild, and obtained the best possible weapon attainable for my class at that time. I honestly don't feel like comparing MUDs and MMOs really makes a lot of sense, as they operate on completely different scales. A better comparison would be comparing Forsaken Lands to another MUD. Having played a few, I can safely say that some require far more than a month to reach the endgame, while others are far more forgiving in terms of training/gearing (Wheel of Time-mud is a prime example of this).
I can't comment on the current state of the game because I just returned a few days ago, but to me, I enjoyed training my skills and spells. It took a lot of time on some of my characters, but in the end, it felt like an accomplishment. Still, having a few spelllearn/skilllearn items put into the game that could be obtained before 50 wouldn't be a terrible thing in my opinion.

I'm going to disagree with this statement. While true 15 years ago, this is very much not true today. I played EQ back in the day and skill and spell training was the worst part of the game. You can only see "your spell fizzles" so many times before you fall into hate. I also tried to go back recently and play an EQ progression server and the skill leveling is so time consuming and immersion breaking that I can't even be bothered, even with all my old crew of friends doing it.
The training here is much easier than it was 15 years ago, but it's still much much more than modern games. WoW is another example. Over WoW's lifetime it went from training skills such as weapons and buying skills to train, to just buying trains, to getting rid of weapon skills, to current where you don't need to do anything you just get new abilities.
When is the last time anyone who plays skyrim on PC can honestly say they trained their character without using console commands? The times change for better or worse.

Just like the Wii!

Given the overall survivability of casters, I would suggest that anyone wanting to play a c/c should go Hardcore.
20 lives is still more than most are willing to lose on a single character, so the benefits far outweigh the risk for c/c's.
I agree with @Manual Labour, and likewise lend my support. If your having trouble or feel your wasting time mastering spells PM one of us, we will have mastered it before.
And outside of a PM, I will tell you here, location matters. Target spells, find or create a sleeper. If yo can cause the sleeper to be in the proper location..... Its pretty fast to say the least.
