Two handed swords. & Humans.

So I completely hate that 2 handed sword using 2 hands is completely gimped in every situation in comparison with Polearms, due to how vastly superior Polearms are in terms of defence/offense. I always dreamed of having some sort of Knight that would run around murdering with his great sword like most Archetypes, but that dream has gone the way of my dream of not needing sanctuary (was a very short one).

So I been thinking how we could improve this, with like giving a bonus on defences formulas and all, when it hit me. Why go complex when we can go simple and bump another thing that needs bumping.

So my suggestion is that Humans get a proficiency bonus of +%20 when** wielding a two handed sword**. In order to make a sword as defensive as a polearm one needs to increase it's sword proficiency by +18% (or did). But Polearms are still more offensive, and less widely known. Thus the +20%.

This has also the bonus of increasing the damage output by something similar to a avg 27 sword becoming an avg 31 (or did). All in all, considering that Swords are extremely easy to disarm, and Polearms are the oposite. And that everyone that knows polearm knows swords, all meeles know swords, but not polearms. This appears somewhat balanced, but more importantly, a good incentive.

My FG get like 117% prof when wielding a fire weapon, then on top of that he gets an extra damage bonus. Is giant sized, has the best hit/dam in the game, bashes can deal fire damage, is physical resistant, but vulnerable to Mental and Ice.

Humans who no one plays, getting this racial perk sounds balanced. It would mainly benefit: DK's, Paladins, Berserkers, Rangers and Warriors. In my opinion the ones most favored would be Human zerks, who would not have a slightly less but still comparable damage to FG. Maybe we would see more of them. DK's with massive two handed swords would be so awesome RPishly. Paladins, due to monted charge would probably still keep Polearms in use. No idea of the impact on rangers, only that Aragon used a 2h sword :P , and Warriors suck with a 2h weapon compared with dual wielding. Perhaps power grip could apply to 2h swords to ???

Forgot Crusaders, who would not get the full benefit due to stuff they already get. And frankly, non Storm giants crusaders pale in comparison. They would also look kick ass with 2handed swords.

Also, there are 3 vuln polearms. Fire/Ice/Wind. The only 2h sword vuln is .... the crusader sword.

Just a sugestion. Maybe we can empower humans and get something nice out of it.

I think two handed swords need a buff in general for all races and classes that can use them (only if it is not being used in a duel wield scenario)

Right now only a giant would ever use a two handed sword and it would be as a primary weapon with another weapon offhand.

Maybe a blm in kairishi might use it but doubtful.

I agree with Mya. The polearm is better in every situation.

Ninja use two handed swords now. What keeps the human ninja from abusing this?

Forgot about the ninja change. I think the point is still valid though (just without buffing ninjas more)

How about making polearms, worse?

If we take that table and only account for offense and defense (because lets face it, only very few situations can you disarm these days) and add the total, polearm comes out way on top.

Is this about making two-handed weapons or humans better? Why does the solution have to be tied to both?

For two-handed weapons update or make better two-handed weapons in the game.

For humans, give them 2 perks instead of the 1 every other race gets.

Another idea you can revamp the perks, make additional perks available based on what race you pick and general perks that can be chosen by any race.

Qraces could have super secret perks.

I like this.

Immortals, please add TWO HANDED PUGIL skills for 30 days and see what happens, yes blunt end and sharp end damages if applicable.  As with a staff they pitch a shields -ac and like pugil it's 'almost' as good a dual wielding, so who cares. I'd rather have someone pugil a sword/polearm/staff at me than dual wielding, on the flip side of the coin id use a two handed weapon more if I could get more than 'up to' 3 attacks.

If the world shakes and trembles in fear of 4-5 attacks from a two handed weapon apposed to 4-8 for dual wielding I'll eat my sneakers ;)

Perk suggestions;

Farrier - you shoe your mounts, ALL mounts stay for 1 week regardless of cost or type.

Packrat - You always pull items from the bottom of your stack.

Conservative - You have learned how to preserve consumables, greatly enhancing their shelf life.

+1 for allowing Humans to get 2 perks. Suggest second perk stops working if they choose to change races later. (Demons, Undead, and Avatars, do not need 2 perks. Human Crusaders or Druids could keep them IMO.)

I'd prefer this to instead be x2 or x3 duration for mounts, and Goliath should be an exception that still only lasts 24 hours.  Keeps a difference between the mounts for you, but still provides a nice boost to duration.

Uc...play..ninja.

They have pugil basically for sword and spear.  Heck their avalon item is a 2-handed spear..

It's definitely good for ninjas to have this weapon variety.

I still agree with Mya though. It would be nice to see a use for two handed swords among paladins, dark knights, crusaders, warriors, blademasters, rangers, and berserkers.

hahaah, a sword then. mah badddddd

This will give quite a big buff to human ninjas and blademasters.

But then, noone plays those combos anyway.

Which doesn't mean they are bad, just that noone plays them.

Blademasters were removed from the human repertoire.  So that might be one reason why, or at least for them.

Right, I completely forgot lol.

The only class which humans can't be is blademaster.....

Thought I would Highlight that for you. Thus my concern with human 2 handed ninja getting a bonus. Have not held the sword since the ninja change but I believe it will work with the new arts.

it does, and it is very nice.

A blademaster can be nasty with a few certain two handed swords.  I often preferred them to polearms.

I didn't see blademasters were already discussed.
