Ranger Pets Balancing Idea

What if ranger pets, which change based on level and alignment, changed based on level and race?

Then the strength of the pets could be used to balance the power difference between the races or rangers.

Why?

Well, there is a vast difference between playing an ogre ranger and a gnome ranger in not only raw power but playability.

I think it was Mali who played Rhodan recently, and I can assure you that the change to halflings weakened those rangers as well.

Why?  Good Question.

Why do we continue to not implement changes that level the playing field across the races? With an average of <30 hrs to pinn a character exp costs mean nothing.

Why do we leave broken combos alone, when we could make constructive changes?

Just a suggestion.

To be fair, ogre ranger isn't really the best example here. I would have cited werebeast. Some of the forms you can get are just nasty.

Let's leave that to personal opinion, lol.

Edited

I think the beasts do need a little tweak. They get one rounded far too easily.

I think if anything is to be done for class/race combos, it needs to be specific to that combo.

IE: Gnome rangers get the ability to modify their pets with inventions, nothing says badass like turning a raven into a mechanical chicken that shoots at you.

Halfling warriors get bonuses to small arms; daggers and 1handed swords/spears.

Little things like that.

That's exactly what I was thinking lol.

So Trick here thinks ogres are the best. Warmogrel would argue that Feral are. Emp_newb (and Lloth) on the other hand will say that it's werebeasts.

The funny thing is,  you are all right. All of those people (except Lloth perhaps) have rolled the playerbase with said races as rangers.

So how do you decide what is strong and what not?

I think we can all agree gnome ranger sucks.

What if the pets took on the rangers perks, ogre pets sould have more strength and a magic vuln, halfling pets would have magic resiztance, beast pets could morph or something :)

Oh, and gnome pets could just suck more than usual. Haha

Don't confuse me sucking as a class issue...

But I like the idea for flavor.
