Rank time.

An effective way of doing it would be a message when you hit a specific level.

You ding level 8 and see the message:

" Do you know about pets? Then let me tell you! "

You have a new quest!

quests

  1. Head to the Elven Kingdom north of Maelbrim to find a strong companion to aid your travels!

Then, when you hit a level where that pet is no longer effective another quest pops up instructing you where to get a new one.

Just make me IMM, that would solve everything imo.  And I promise not to go around threatening people on the forum calling you children like an insecure 50yo school teacher.

Dude.. chill out.

Is a fantastic starting point for a resource - thanks @mya for putting this together.  As a group of 'vets' I think we have enough knowledge and experience to put together the bare bones of content to translate this from an OOC guide to an IC quest line.  Trick is completely correct that the IMMs are already over stressed - is this something we could work on to give something back?

@egreir I have no desire to play this game but perhaps I will make a disposable CC and get to 20 really fast just to show you I am not talking out my butt.

Please humor me and do so :)  I'll eat crow if I'm wrong.

what combo did you take to 20? I will do it with a CC of similar exp penalty

  1. add a quest that leads you to Alsatian.  Another guild quest that leads to Gharnizon perhaps?
  2. we already lead you to a basic weapon, maybe lead to a slightly better one?
  3. an herb gathering quest would be divine, lead people to some of the basic herbs.
  4. the leading people from one leveling area to the other would be awesome.

I personally think the troll in Drow city is better than Gharnizon. It dirts... Great for c\c leveling solo. But level 30.

Yeah... You are just being an ass.

@Fireman, the idea of hitting level 8 and getting a message is a good idea.

Realistically, what level should you do the newbie quest line to get benefit from it? Anyone have an opinion?

I give as good as I get.  We're all adults here, or so I thought.

I thought you said it didn't matter.   Avian bmage is what I spent my time on.

I specifically said the exp pen means more than the race/class lol.

So what melee did you get to 20 in 40 minutes?

a fire zerk

You also have to account for the fact that evils and goods get more for killing mobs of the opposing alignment. Anything neutral will take longer by default.

Good point.

The argument is that C/C should be doing these guild quests, so align shouldn't make a difference.

I really like this! I hardly play mages so it would be helpful and encouraging to try them more often with informative quests like this.

Feel free to update Wiki>Useful Info>Ranking List.

I will start working on a few quests to show ranking areas, pet locations, etc.

Ok, so I rolled a storm cleric which has an exp penalty of 275, just slightly higher than your fire zerk.

In 40 minutes I reached level 14. This is an average of 3 minutes per rank doing medium guild quests only.

As the exp per quest scales with level the ratio remains very similar up until level 20, then the quests start sending you a little further, like elemental canyon.

So I needed 6 more levels to reach 20, which would have taken 18 more minutes.

So as I suspected it is a little slower than hunting (early on). So you reach lvl 20 about 20 minutes faster as a melee. The major loss of time was all the sleeping I had to do to recover movement, this becomes less of an issue after level 30 and somewhat balances out the longer travel distance required per quest.

You also chose one of the highest dps melees at low rank. If we raced to 50, me doing guild quests only and you solo hunting only I am 100% sure I would beat you.

Edited

lvl 25 in under 90 minutes now while working.

So basically what you said is that I was right?  You said you could easily reach lvl 20 in under 40 minutes, you didn't even reach 15.

The perception of low lvl mage leveling being "easy" is overly stated.  Keep going to 30 and timing it if you'd like.
