Revamp Watcher Pets

Has there ever been any thought in revamping the watcher pets? I don't think they should be OP or anything, but maybe make some better use of them. I find overall the Green Dragon is ideal, however, that get's eaten up even with sanctuary in two to three rounds if that. The cave bear last a little longer, more like 2 rounds with no sanc, 3 to 4 with sanc. The other ones seem to be more for lower levels, can't really do much with them but some fun RP.

Maybe the unicorn has a fun little charge, and maybe more health so it can actually stay in combat longer than a few hits.

Maybe the dog can bite someone so they are wounded or something.

Maybe the Cockatrice gets like a low-end headbutt, or firebreath.

I'm just throwing stuff out there. Typically watchers are always up against the Tribunal and Winston is a beast. Takes a while to kill that bastard, plus he bashes and Shield disarms and whatever else he does. I know there are a lot of things already on the go, but I figured I throw this in the mix.

I don't understand why a cabal offers pets for anything other than level 50.

IMO, the pets should offer different playstyles, something like this:

  1. melee pet with magical attacks (dirt, trip, disarm)

  2. melee pet with physical attacks (dirt, trip, disarm)

  3. heavy lagger pet (current dragon is fine)

  4. communer pet (something aking torilar)

  5. caster pet (something aking to the grand mistress of magic)

The HP of the new pets should be enough for them to at least 4 rounds against heavy melee characters.

I agree that they probably need a look.

Lets all be honest here, a lot of Watchers skills are RP based - like bringing the big guns when you're destroying a city, it seems a bit pointless.

The cave bear does have a few more attacks then the dragon, but that bash is like gold cause that thing is freaking HUGE.

They do die REALLY quickly and then you're stuck not being able to get another for 24 hours. Surely GAIA should have something better up her sleeve...

Yeah but come on, they are no cp cost free pets.  They do not count as an ability, and are available at inductee.

They have low hp pools, but can effect lvl 50 battle very well.

A lot of watcher skills either increase your damage output or reduce damage incoming. They're rather strong, actually.

And Winston is only exceptionally strong because he's the Blood Guard of a Leader.

That green dragon is a PAIN. When I was a Tribunal, I would make my first priority to kill the darned dragon before even engaging the Watcher.

Watcher begs to have a BLM in it's halls abusing haste and enlarge for the pets. As I recall there are two size categories above giant...

That dragon has won me a LOT of fights. I have a few logs of it doing some clutch work against Hebh(Former Nexus Vamp), Valerion(Syndi Vamp), and Aerolyn(Tribunal Vamp).. There were a lot of vampires during the time I made my Stalker, lol.

The bear is GREAT when you're taking a standard. I'd use that bear just to help me make quick work of the cabal guardian, then switch it out when it died or when I could.

Best way to keep your pets alive as a Watcher is make sure you open first and with a blinding skill if you have one. Yes, they will probably flee and run around until they can re-engage, but if you're fast enough, they should always be aimed on you. If you MISS the dirt kick, well.. that's just bad luck, lol.

Dont get me wrong, they are powerful in what they do. Just the HP is an issue.

the hp is the balancing factor.

I would literally have to agree with all of you. All great points. Being smart and keeping them dirt @Trick is the ideal scenario. Your right too @mya that dragon has won me a fight too in the past, thus it's already got it's worth being a pain. Also, @Kyzarius you had some great points too. Those are really good perks to have and really ideal. I'm just leaning towards fun stuff to have, nothing that will greatly change the outcome of the battle. Maybe giving Elders or Leaders the ability to add extra protection on them might be cool as an add on.

comeon man, hardening the pets IS adding more to battle.  The saving grace for non protective shield / balance classes is their ability to kill that green dragon.  Otherwise they get lag locked and dead.

There are countless logs showing that green dragon completing turning a fight around, and God help whoever gets hit with two bashes. Improving the power of those pets without making them harder to obtain is a pretty big power boost. Just a adding 400 hp alone would make them from troublesome, to a big problem

I rather like the idea of focusing on the pets that see no use. If you leave the green dragon alone as your control and balance the other pets to be as useful as the dragon in different situations, I think you've enriched Watcher considerably.

Lel.

Slight contradiction there.
