Designated by a new color PK flag, hardcore players have more to fear than any others in the game. Should they die by the hands of a mob, or a PK, there character is instantly wiped from the plane of existence.
Hardcore players are not protected by the rules of the game in terms of ganging/tagging. By choosing this mode, they accept, no, they welcome it.
Hardcore players receive slight benefits while taking on such a risk. A 10% AC bonus from all items worn. An innate +1 spell lvl. Auto mastery of word of recall, classes that normally do not receive this spell now have it. A base +5/+5 hit dam modifier.
These bonuses do not take effect until lvl 50.
Thoughts?
We've discussed something like this a few times before, albeit with 10 - 20 lives total.
Looking at some of the recented character threads (people deleting while still in prime condition - i.e ogre praetorian elder avatar), I can't help but wonder if this wouldn't just stack bonuses on characters that would already be able to have huge benefits and never really die very often anyway.
Yes, this is what we thought of also, thus we've not put this in
yeah, just seems like boosting characters for players that don't like to commit to anything for very long...
of course, you could always rp the "hardcore" aspect and just delete your character after 1 death (could be an atheist without a god willing to grant you another life) but it seems like a few peeps have done that already... only it's not for the sake of rp.
maybe it's just me... but after spending hours training, rping, equiping, writing descriptions/apps/notes and earning notoriety... I want to hold on to all that hard-work for as long as possible. whenever I get bored I either get involved in someone else's rp or come up with something of my own. it is almost limitless what can be done with a character. I seem to have got off topic... end rant.
Things can be balanced.
Like for example, when a hardcore character dies, he loses 5 rares, instead of the usual 2.
Multiple solutions can be figured out. The idea is good and shouldn't be ignored.
The problem remains that people who already are very good pkers will mainly chose such a path. They should not get any more pk buffs.
We also want to promote longevity and involvement into plots / other characters.
After discussing this idea, we came up with Journeyman, I think this is going in a better direction. Give those people the buffs that do really need them.

+1
Making this place more about evening the playing field (while it sucks when you find that OP combo you can exploit to your advantage) is the right direction. Catering to the 1% of the elites has it's place. We want to keep them around for their skill and (hopefully) positive influence, but I don't think a hardcore mode is the way to make it happen.

What I always liked about FL was how the atmosphere catered to a variety of players. Whether it be those more in it for rp **or **for pk. Those with lots of times to play **and **those with little of it.
I for one don't have as much time to play as I used to and I'm sure they're are many others in the same boat. A mode like this would push more towards getting the character involved in all events much more quickly knowing that they don't have much time to live. Though I'd say 5-8 lives would be more than enough. And again, ganging and tagging should be encouraged against these players. And ofcourse they should be watched more closely and perhaps rewarded more frequently.
I don't like the idea, many changes have already been made over the years making it easier to pinn, easier to train, easier to get caballed etc...
FL, imo, does not need to give more incentive for shallower and more disposable characters AND boost their PK.
If anything I think RP should be more strictly enforced with more frequent rewards and punishments. The better players already have a huge PK edge, they know how to get decked, what combos stomp hardest, and the pbase is just too damn small for "permitted ganging" to be a downside.
So few people condie anyway I don't see why a new hardcoded mode is needed. As previously mentioned a lot of people play their characters as hardcore already. They rise to the top quickly and then after a downfall they delete and do it again with something else. I really don't see why this should be encouraged and rewarded with even more PK prowess.
In my opinion I think all EQ should be toned down, there is too much AC, too much hit/dam, too many saves. The game has become a giant 1v1 battleground for decked people to fight in and in the mix are some poor souls who just can't compete on a level playing field and probably aren't going to anytime soon.

I am one of those people you are speaking for and I agree completely. Although I think it is more about the information that is guarded so closely. Played for a long time and there are still tons of things I have yet to learn.
I don't see how info is still so guarded as you can speak about anything that is not qrace/class related, quest related or cabal related > T level. There is even the wiki with a ton of information about weapons, eq, skills, perks, etc. Just look it up. Also, ask people in game, most are quite helpful.
Just found the perks list on the wiki, OMFG that is amazing that makes a huge difference.
just found the perks page on the wiki OMFG that is amazing! redact most of what I said before.
would love to see the rage deletion thread of a hardcore character.
If the IMMs give me a hardcore character I'll come back to "Test" it
