So, I was thinking.
Good clerics get turn undead.
And evil ones should have rebuke/control undead.
Instead they have AoE spell earthquake.
Of course control undead as DK "charm person" would be to powerful.
Still, something in the line of control over undead could be made.
In theory it should cover 3 typical uses of "Turn undead".
-
Use vs a undead mob.
-
Use vs a PC undead.
-
Use vs the undead of a PC (aka zombies).
The best I could come up with was, command undead forcing a undead to assist you. Like some mobs assist goods. This could be a simple affect on the mob, with a timer. So you cannot have full control, but you can make a room more dangerous vs an opponent.
Still this creates a problem for Necromancers. If one of their pets assists the cleric and deals damage to the necromancer, it is dismissed. Charms cannot deal damage to masters, else they autodismiss. Or did 1 year ago.
So perhaps a rescue on successful "command undead" would be better. This way it could be codded that rescue command cannot redirect master to charmie. But then again a rescue has 2 rounds lag for the cleric. But then again turn undead is also 2 rounds lag spell.
What you think?
yeah control undead- like rath- sounds GREEEEEAT
I would give good ones something that harms Avatars.
Purge light?
Vanquish Purity?
good clerics get turn undead because undead are their typically chosen antithesis. So an evil cleric though, wouldnt neccesarily control undead. That is more for Necros and Liche. An evil cleric though would probably seek to develop a means to banish pure beings of light.
I like the general idea of this but not as a charmie for a long period of time. To many of the undead mobs I've encountered would be to much to really deal with and pushing close to the overpowered mark. I'm sure Rathanous deserves his undead bodyguard because he's earned such with wonderful rp. I'd just really hate to see everyone packing a rakhi or something more powerful at their side. Those mobs alone can drop pinned characters by themselves. Using them in a certain room and having them assist you there may work ok however but having them always at your side is to much imo.

Never said it would work like DK charm. Just that the mob would assist you, like Kesrick assists goods, and Orcs attack elves. You can't lead the mob. All he has to do is move a bit and no longer a threath.
I understand that. That's why I said that would be fine. I was agreeing that a dk like charm was to much. I really like the idea of an evil assisting. Command undead sounds alright to me. I do however like the purge light or vanquish purity idea just as well.
But avatars are so rare. It would have little use.

In all my times as a paladin, I never once had opportunity to stake a vampire. But every one of those paladins still put the pracs into it, just in case, because of how powerful it would be should the opportunity arise.
Skills that are rarely useful are the skills that can afford to be extremely powerful in those rare situations.
Dam you Pali and your sound arguments.
But in that case they should not lose earthquake.
But wait. Evil clerics don't have stake.......
So, they should have both skills.
Evil clerics don't have stake, so they should just get something new without losing anything because they aren't already powerful enough?
Don't get me wrong - I like the idea of giving them more flavor. But more power, that they do not need.
Clerics always need more power.
-Mya's logic.
since we would be talking about a fairly powerful spell, I would think we are talking about a fairly powerful cleric. The uber powerful undead in the game, the likes of which said cleric would likely wish to gain the aid of, tend to be aggressive. Perhaps we could limit the power, and still get the effect Mya seeks.
I propose, Invisibility to Undead. In this way the cleric could enter the room where said undead resides undetected. The undead would attack anyone else entering the room, provided they were not also an evil cleric. Just a thought.
This could make things difficult for necromancers seeking to kill said cleric. Difficult, but not impossible.
