Bump desc level to 30.

I see the bio system as a means to add further detail and solidify a mental picture of your character, not a replacement. This is, after all, a text based game. I think we're in real trouble if a list of adjectives gives us everything we need. Might as well remove room and mob descriptions as well.

I just want to say something smaller from a much larger topic/opinion of mine and take it how you want. This isn't a flame on the staff or anyone, it's just simply from the outside looking in...

Descriptions, among other things, are just a way for us to try and claim that we are an RP MUD...when in reality, we are a PK Mud that tries to emphasize/enforce RP to cover things up and make it seem like a more welcoming atmosphere.

This is an RP enforced PK mud. Not a PK enforced RP mud. The difference may seem subtle, but it is quite large.

That's not to say we do not RP or enjoy doing it...but we are lying to ourselves when we try to act like a description is important in the atmosphere of the game anymore as well as so many other things. How many people have sent RP notes to their cabal, to all, to an imm and were plum ignored or never touched on in game? But we want to harp on descriptions being done at lvl 15 as if @ 50 people really react to the scar you have on your face?

To say anymore would start to get into another side of the argument which is that way too many people here hide their real feelings/thoughts because they want to be on the IMMs good side, or whatever. But truth is truth.

I wish brief would remove mob descriptions!!

I agree with egrIer, and simultaneously think that the degredation of these stopgates to rampant RP is what prevents us from devolving (again, my opinion) in to a flat pk mud.

People by and large in all walks of life are losing the ability and interest in creativity. People want the hard and fast rewards of domination; either dominating one's environment, or each other. I think we can attribute a lot of the failures of our community to the desire for a feeling of superiority over other players. We aren't invested in creating a living world because we want that shiney piece of EQ to faceroll he opposition. A very well respected member of our community wrote about this a while ago before his retirement.

We are trying to balance to opposing systems of play, which is inhefantly difficult. These systems aren't designed to cause headaches or as bandaid methods to 'pretend' like we're an RP mud - they're the best and most agreeable methods we currently have to keep the spirit of FL the same. If this weren't true the vast majority of the administration's efforts would be useless.

And i'm not trying to affix blame, either. I think it's a systemic societal issue that we all suffer from. The staff also needs to work harder to make you the players WANT to be creative.

Bet that's a lot more than you bargained for with that idea post, eh?

I also think its just the nature of the game itself multiplied by the decline in pbase-size. Everyone is so focused on their own thing (im guilty of this as well) that we forget to spend time delving into each others' stories.

We may not particularly be losing creativity, as we strive to create our own glory, but we lose out on RP in a grander scale by focusing too much on our selfish goals as opposed to flushing out the details on the characters and world around us.

It's something I've personally been trying to do more of (be involved in other characters' stories) but it gets to feel disheartening when you realize you're one of a select few who are doing it.

But this is the game we love and thus, here we are, still going at it

This is a problem each of us can work on themselves however.

-Respond to rp when it is offered.

-There is NO reason not to rp with a level 1 character. (I've seen 50s ignoring lowbies, I've also seen great rp sessions between them.)

-Do not be too offensive with your own rp. People often get bad or no responses if they try to smother others with their rp.

-Adapt. Rp usually does not go in a straight line. Swing with the blows.

Sidenote: Desc issue has been changed, compare Tongar's thread on General Discussion. Good idea, Mya.
