the who command

I personally think that not being able to see who and what people are as a class would do the game some good I mean unless your in a guild with someone or a merchant without visually seeing someone how the heck does it make any sense that you can sense them in the lands and know what class they are what race they are... i might i think it might add some fun to the game trying to figure out what people are or what class they are through roleplay i dont know just a thought... i mean i can understand like if you have the ability to scry for people or something but its kind of odd to think hey im a warrior and i can sense this mage is about in his tower like across the map....

now seeing how many players are on at once does make sense on the other hand then you at least know what could be out there

Gameplay > realism

Also, its not nice to try to change the game so it suits better the classes you play.

This has been brought up before, and one of the reasons we decided against it is because it denies fight preperation. For instance, a monk will go in to a fight with a cleric different than we would a battlemage. Some classes rely on proper preperation more than others, so this would in fact be a handicap. While it would maintain the RP environment, it would hinder PK ability.

The game balance reason: Volg already covered this, for the most part. Battle tactics depend on what you're fighting, and some classes would be incredibly weakened by making it impossible to know what you're up against before engaging.

The gameplay reason: this is meant to be a multiplayer game, not a single player game with multiplayer components. Having a who list, and particularly the variations of it (who group, who pk, etc.), makes it easier to interact with other players.

The RP reason: I'm not 100% certain that any administration for FL has ever actually said this is the case, but my understanding has always been that PCs are essentially considered heroic entities within the world. The simple fact that you are a guild member means your name has begun spreading around the world, and so others would have heard of you. Perhaps whenever someone of such a heroic status is publicly roaming the lands (in other words, is logged in), word spreads quickly of such and it becomes common knowledge? There are a lot of ways to come up with RP justifications for such knowledge - however you want to justify it is really up to you, in my opinion.

I don't know has any staff member ever said anything like that, but at least I have, something similar (just noting in case you remember someone saying, but not about who). And that's why I didn't bother with name-introducing and stuff (unless other initiated it) - because my character has already heard of about you. However, a thing I might not have thought before, is that it could be polite (something like manners, maybe) to introduce yourself when meeting someone for the first time...
