Engineer

So just some really basic ideas while I have them on my mind...

Races: Half-elf, Human, Gnome

Alignment: Neutral

A pseudo-hybrid class that hinges on craftable items and guerrilla tactics to win fights.

Generic Abilities: All weapons, Parry/Dodge/Shield Block

Unique Abilities: Discover, Deconstruct, Craft, Brew, Forge Weapon, Forge Armor, Fortify

Discover

Allows the engineer to find materials to work with. Materials come in three types:

Herbs (Can be used to brew special potions)

Minerals (Can be used to forge and fortify items)

Magical (Can be used to alter the effects of Brewed, Forged, and Fortified items)

Deconstruct

Allows the engineer to take something apart and turn it into one or more base components

Craft

Allows the engineer to create basic items out of the materials they discover. Bags, lights, boats, etc.

Brew

Similar to the pre-existing ability, brew would allow engineers to create various potions. They would have a little more control over what they were creating and can brew multiple items together to create hybrid potions.

Forge Weapon/Armor

Allows the engineer to create an armor or weapon. Requires a base item and minerals to forge new item

Fortify

Allows the engineer to fortify a forged item with more minerals, herbals solvents, or magical compounds to create even better armors.

Like I said, a very rough sketch of what I have in mind. I can take time to develop it further, but if you have thoughts, ideas, or contempt and loathing to add, feel free.

If this were taken seriously, I'd really like to see them outfitted with fired weapons, maybe even over a large distance, and able to make/use explosives that can say be dropped and detonate in a tick.

I really like the idea, this could be greatly expanded upon to mix the DotA invoker with FL's crusaders to create a true neutral Qclass.

I just think that brewing has nothing to do with the class though.

If Bali won't mind, I would like to expand on his idea.

Actually this class is far better than your Pirates one. I actually like it.

I'd like to see it not be a NEUTRAL qclass, it should have no alignment restriction.

And you're right, engineers don't brew at all. For that matter, they're not blacksmiths or whatever else either. Having been an engineer myself, I do see where Evangelion was going with it and what he was trying to do.

Alchemical Engineer

Fixed that little problem. On a side note I like the concept. Maybe let it have constructed charmies that have different form, and function based on their basic components. Kinda like the different ranger pets I suppose.

Maybe not fired weapons, but definately sometime of crafted explosive

Crafted/constructed pets.

Good ideas keep popping.

I like the idea of a timed explosive. Would really add some fun to the class.

Like setting the explosive to go off in a certain number of ticks.

like cast 'detonator' 5 would set it for five ticks, so if you're getting chased or setting an ambush, someone walks in on tick five and BOOM!.

Might not work in practice, but it sure is fun to think about.

I think the option of planting explosives INTO your creatures would be great. Like a sensitive explosive would go off if the pet is bashed, causing the basher to be unable to bash for X tics.

Or an Aether explosive could have a chance of going off, disrupting enemy spell casting (fury like) for X tics.

One explosive could be rigged to disarm an opponent if they hit the pet with say 3 attacks in a round.

I really like this idea. Makes me want a gnome bombsmith.

The first thing I thought of when I read this was Heimerdinger, from League of Legends, for some reason. Turrets that could act like traps, and damage you every room you walk by them in a 2-3 room radius. Like a wounding flag that does a little more damage. Traps you have to detonate when they are in the room(Heimers concussion grenade). Etc...regardless, this sounds like a real neat idea.

I just really like the idea of a pet class where you can build your pet, and customize it fully. Instead of the pet dying, it would just be damaged, and function below optimum. You could then gather equipment to repair the construct. You could brew fuels (give it an element to it's alchemical explosions), Craft armor that increases it's defense, or offense, or health, or special abilities.

I really ****ing like this.

Maybe path selections to see what kind of engineer you are.

SAPPER - Focusing on crafting/using explosives. Different kinds of detonation techniques like timed and remote. Different explosives for different things to add utility, like a breaching charge for a locked door. Sappers getting the dig ability like duergars/drows makes total sense too.

TINKER - Sort of like the beastmaster of the engineers. Specializing in more, better, and different kinds of upgrades for their mechanizations and higher gather/salvage proficiency and yield.

I can't imagine them not having Fired Weapons. An engineer isn't going to stabbing you with a spear while wearing platemail, an engineer is going to try to use his head to kill you without you being able to kill him.

pretty sick idea, i would come back and play it when/if it comes about.

it would be a long time before any classes can get implemented, espescially with Zhokril having a real life instead of coding for FL all the time.

Personally, I'd like to see some of these things implemented as Herald cabal powers and the rest put into revamping bards.

I think it's a badass idea, reminds me of Engineers from Warhammer:Online Age of Reckoning.

Very neat

I've always been of the opinion that this sort of class needs to be available. I don't, however, think that it is the Neutral qclass we're looking for. I feel if it were to be implemented than it should be open to all alignments.

I really like the sound of a class that can set the battleground up and control movement. I'd say brew just doesn't fit them, but it'd be nice if you could lob grenades of some kind that had different affects. Glue bomb or something like that to stick them in place, oil bomb to make someone passing through slide into the direction you wanted them to go, kinda like a push effect. Not sure how hard it would be to code though.
