I want this to go in the Ideas forum anonymously as to not draw speculation to my character. I came up with this idea for a BMG spell and wanted to get some feedback.
This would be a spell that can only be used in battle and affects whomever the BMG is fighting. If fighting vs 3 opponents, a repulse would send each in a random direction with 1 or 1.5 rounds of lag for both caster and opponents. I think it's very in-tune with the survivability aspect of BMG's and gives them a little bit more flexibility.
'REPULSE'
syntax: cast 'repulse'
Cost: 30 mana
Level: 50
Battlemages, while under the reflective shield spell, have learned to
channel portions of the shield into a repulsive force that can send
multiple enemies tumbling in various directions. The direction in
which enemies are repelled can not be controlled by the mage, however
the force is such that even the largest of races can not resist it.
In many cases, the syncronicity between the caster's shield and body
have saved the mage's life. When near death, the reflective shield will release all of its energy and disperse into a potentially life-saving repulsive
force (something like monk beads but without the strangle and it cancels reflective shield).
Thoughts?
So... Make it even easier for bmgs to tool rangers?
They would also be able to navigate any gauntlet solo with this spell.
I like the idea, but the spell would need to cost 150 mana and have a 6 tick cooldown.
I like the idea, personally. Even though I hate fighting bmgs, and this would increase that frustration, I do think the spell fits nicely with what a bmage is. However, because the spell could be high rewarding, maybe make it a bit more risky? (risk vs reward) Instead of reflective shield, make it use/drop force field, instead? If the bmage does not react quickly enough after the repulse, they risk bash/slam/etc...lock?
Well, having played quite a few BMG's, I can definitely say they have some gaping weaknesses. Namely magic. Where melees can typically kick dirt to get extra DPS against mages/communers, a BMG has to rely on an AOE flashfire...or a 2-round lag sear - which can be saved against. A giant melee wielding magic weaps can bash-lock a BMG using reflective shield for the entire fight and never take more than a 'scratch' from reflective shield...even if that BMG is enlarged. It might not always happen while enlarged, but it can and does. Any class with 'call lightning' is very deadly vs. BMG...so saying they can "tool rangers" isn't accurate IMO.
While I'd much rather see BMG's have access to magic missile, I do like the idea. I think it brings back some flavor to reflective shield (which has been nerfed to almost uselessness except mobs and rare instances of fighting phys weapon users). But I think mana cost should be similar to sharpmetal: 25-30 mana per opponent who gets repulsed.
Also, when it comes to mobs, it shouldn't be like the ninja push skill which makes mobs non-aggro...otherwise that would be OP.
I will disagree that battlemages need any boosts whatsoever at this point. I've had many very successful BMGs who didn't rely on curatives that did very well. Human battlemages IMHO is the best, well rounded race/class selection available.
If you want push, play a ninja.
BMGs don't need anything.
me and fox are on the same page. Bmg's are strong as hell once you know what the spells are.
I see the merit of the idea but i do not believe bmgs need anything
Sounds like a last ditch effort, not something the bmg can use to own rangers or solo gauntlets.
If it cost a bit more mana and when used the reflective shield was dropped as they use all the reflective properties to repulse their enemies, I'd say it would be pretty neat.
