Well this is what I would tweet:
"At level 15 I totally dominated a Green Dragon by myself with a Cleric. COME GET SOME! GET DOMINATED!"
The purpose is to help bring people to the MUD, not to make it easier to tweet/FB post, Kyzarius.
c 'facebook'
You post about your fantasy life on facebook!
Everybody knows you are a wizard!
Your shame DOES UNSPEAKABLE THINGS to your career!
The gods have frowned upon you.
You are now homeless!
No offense, but I'm against any real time "posting/tweeting/facebook" type thing, mainly because of the OOC inferences that become involved. If anyone wants to see what's going on in-game, they should log in. The potential for abuse is about as great as that of AIM, but it becomes open and publicly accepted.
Must be some reason the mainstream games of today utilize them ![]()

I agree. But we're pretty far from a main stream game. About as close as we get to a main stream game is during Halloween Madness.
I am, however, curious as to how exactly this would work. I doubt it's something I'd want to use (none of you will ever know my characters until they're gone), but, sate my curiosity as to how this would work without hurting the integrity of the game like AIM does.
I agree with Valek in that I'm not all too hot on the idea of live updates from within the MUD to facebook/twitter.
In what capacity would it be more beneficial to the MUD being able to do this from in-game instead of just using facebook/twitter through the already available means? Not trying to be a douche - genuine question.

My point exactly, Tassinvegeta. So many people ask "how can we get more people to come play the MUD?", and Facebook, having a network of 400 million+ users (many of which already PLAY online games) would be a pretty nice place to start. No offense to MudMagic, TMC or TMS, but I have personal web pages that have higher Alexa ratings...You're just NOT going to get a lot of new traffic from them anymore.
There are several options regarding what/how items can be posted on Facebook. If there is a threat of abuse (which is always the go-to fear, evidently), the MUD could post on behalf of the player for particular events, like a PK, quest completion, whatever. These could be toggled, or, if you didn't want them at all, the player simply wouldn't link their MUD player account to their Facebook account. Experience/gold bonuses could be given to players who DO link their accounts to incentivize doing so. If there was a concern players' walls would get too "spammy", it could be configured to simply post on the Forsaken Lands Facebook page. There are a LOT of options.
And Mali, I'm surprised at you. The "wow, you're a nerd because you play an online game" stigma has pretty much disappered thanks to Facebook. How many daily updates do you see from people who are nerding it up by playing online games like Mafia Wars, Farmville, Cityville, Mall World, etc? Let's not forget to mention the fact that Zynga (the maker of a lot of those games) now has a net worth of over 5 Billion, which is more than EA...(http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-10-26/zynga-tops-electronic-arts-as-social-games-spread.html)...
Or, we can go with the "OMG, KILL IT WITH FIRE" mentality and ignore a huge potential player pool. ![]()

from a developmental stand point you would want to make an applet that lets you mud from within facebook, not facebook from within the mud.

From a developmental standpoint (and speaking as a developer), no, that's not really an approach that would be beneficial.
Facebook Connect would be the better approach.

My idea would require no work on behalf of the imm staff to create a workable product. What would they have to do for your soultion?
There is already a FB group for FL too. I believe it has already produced some traffic for the mud, though it is not doing so through conventional FL standards. Most participants do not hold to any of the forum rules that moderate information, aside from quest spoilers that is.
One thing that would have to occur prior to any additional exposure is a consensus between the staff and the pbase on what should be regulated and what just cant be in the reality of an open social structure like FB.
If you developed an app, that merely served as an "FB portal" to the mud, but added additional "client like" features that ties in the communication aspect. Then you could deliver a product that does not create extra overhead for the staff (or the mud's servers) but produces what your after.
In effect you would construct an FL inspired client (some graphics etc etc), that runs on facebook. You could trigger FB messages based off of the muds normal output (master questor? you won? you lost?). Set options that allow users to turn on/off or allow them to just post their selected automated FB messages to the FL FB group, instead of spamming their families.

Actually, that requires a bloody huge amount of work. Unless you have an "FL inspired client with some graphics that runs on Facebook" just lying around. I know I don't.
My implementation simply would require adding 1 field to a pfile (facebook ID), then adding triggers in the mud code for any number of events to call the Facebook Connect API to post a status update whenever one of those triggers occur.
You know, that, or we could create an entire FL client that runs on Facebook.
