no who/whois command while asleep

too tempting to use that information to see who just blackjacked/strangled you.

Why is that a bad thing?

WC

seems like cheating.

cheating how?

WC

i think it's a misuse of the command that is unintended. almost OOC if used that way. i always do it myself, but i don't think it's right.

the way i see it from an IC perspective, a conscious player has a spiritual "link" to all other mortals in the game, allowing them to sense their presence. i think that if you lose consciousness that link should be severed.

how about nobody sees who is on ever that way when your lvl 1 you cant find a group to rank with?

that's not constructive.

This 'link' itself is completely made up. You can just as easily say that the link is maintained while you're asleep.

The only problem I see with who while asleep is that I've seen tribs use it as sole evidence to want. I've sent notes and they get in trouble, but they continue doing it.

We slay people for cheating, char-trading, and yet they continue doing it.

It happens. That's Prax's business.

That's just natural selection at work.

The idiots are being weeded out so the smart and strong may survive.

Might that be why you don't play anymore?

heh.

Nah, I wasn't weeded out. I've just defied my nature and attempted to exist outside the laws of existance, such as Natural selection.

so.... you're...... jesus?

a-g

Jesus comes to me when he wants to go to church.

very true. but if the 'link' was really meant to be that strong, why not just be able to see who is in the room while you're asleep?

if the 'link' is so persistent, why can't you sense hidden players in the game? or invisible ones when you don't have detect up? or camoed rangers & sliths?

i know we could go on all day and both find justifications for either view, that's the beauty of fantasy.

but when half a second after getting jacked/strangled you do a who and see someone in your PK range that you haven't even seen since you logged on, i think that's kinda cheap and not really what it was intended for.

it only requires the tiniest bit of deduction, and with our shrinking player base that required amount of deduction is even smaller.

i know this is a small issue, but that's balanced by the fact that it's easy to change. and i agree that it is nice to be able to look for potential hunting partners while asleep, but it's really not that difficult to just wake up first.

"shrinking player base"

Nonexistent. Refer to General Posts, my stickied thread. The playerbase has been steadily and slowly growing.

To turn this thread back to something actually useful... (Edit: I started writing this when warpnow had latest reply)

I very rarely need to do "who" while taking tight nap in order to figure out who was the thief or ninja or what ever who knocked me out.

Tho, I never "abused" this info while I was Justice/Tribunal. Most of the time anyways was able to shoot the flag on correct person when the backstab came... It's trib's own stupidity if he flags without waterproof evidence. If he happens to flag wrong person, it's sorta "big ouch".

If you get flagged without good evidence, pretend you never did anything. Or kill the tribunal. And don't bother them when you're only one of your (hiding) class around and don't want get flagged. IMO, it is waterproof evidence when there is five people online, three are lowbies, plus tribunal and thief. (If not, gosh I'm glad I aint gona play tribunal again)

EDIT: Also, this(/these) game(s) is(/are) so full of things that don't make sense, that it is futile to try to fix them all, while the game would lose the "fun" if tried to. With your model of thought, Opriel X, maybe sleeping persons shouldn't be able to use grouptell? Or how about sending a note while asleep? Or maybe characters should sometimes fall in so deep sleep that player can't wake them when he wants, without "stimulus" caused by something in the surroundings of the character? All things that don't make sense in real life, but are useful and used in game, and would sure piss off 99% of playerbase if changed to "more realistic". It's game.

Um... you do realize that ninjas/thieves can strangle/blackjack without becoming unhidden, right? If they choose to be visible, for whatever reason, that's their choice. If a thief wants to blackjack you and steal five things from your inventory without you seeing him on your who list, he can do it. If a ninja strangles you and assassinates you, he can do it without going visible.

Waterproof evidence? Because you see him on who?

No way. That's BS. You have to ACTUALLY see him committing the crime.
