How about extending the limit for rare in your inventory to your worn equipment as well? Perhaps this would shift the PK balance on skill instead of your equipment?
Just a thought....

I think that's a good idea, has my vote.
That really hurts equipment dependant classes though. Won't affect a bmg or an invoker as much as it will affect a Warrior or Berserker.
WC
Clerics and shamans would rule the world then (even more than now),
Would completely screw over warriors and zerks.
I think it takes skill to get and KEEP those great rares, so take em away and you will be left with the same people killing everyone else and we will see an overload of rogues, clerics, and other casters.
And thus we see how little I know :} That's ok, I like to think I learn fast.
I like the idea of rare restrictions based on class. Doesn't have to be the same for everyone.
In that case make it based on kills:deaths.
The suckier you are the more rares you are allowed ![]()
Oh sure.
While we're at it, we'll put a little [FARM ME] flag on them too.
Personally, I prefer the [Equipment Pinata] flag myself. ![]()
You know, I think that is automatically tacked on to my characters every time I roll one. ![]()
Think? HAH!
Anyone ever try a 'help crusader'? I think that's the only class that has rare limits, though it might be in another help file of theirs. I kinda thought the idea was good to a point when it was first brought up two forums ago, but the more I thought about it, the less likely it'd be that people would survive and as already stated, Invokers and such would rule the PK world. Then I rethought it and figured lets just do that to Despisers characters and we'd all be set. ![]()

All classes have rare limits dependent on the rank of the character. Read HELP RARE for more info.
Crusaders are more stringent. Additionally, Heralds also have rare limits.
Wow...heralds have rare limits? When was that added? Do they get like Pk protection like bards used to for it?
And I always thought the fact that saders have a rare limit like that was qclass info...

It's in the help file. (crusader rare limit I mean)
Heralds accepted a rare limit some time ago to keep a certain cabal skill. Krounoi perhaps can elaborate further if he wishes. Heralds have no PK-shield, that is to say, while sometimes viewed as weak and lame by the players, it is not illegal to kill Heralds.
I think more of it that people are wanting rare items worn changed. The limits as per rare items in the inventory is another matter entirely as the math on that is simple: Character Level/10 - 1
Basically at 50 you can hold a max of 4 rare items in your inventory, but you can wear everything that is rare that suits you as long as you only have 4 rares in your inventory, you're good to go. What I believe the original intention of the post was that to change it so you could only have a set limit of rares you can wear on your body that also counts against your final rare count as per Crusaders. Although a nice idea and all, not all that great for like already mentioned eq dependant Zerks and Warriors. That would make Giant melees more popular as with their great strength, they can farely easily get a decent hit/dam with little to no rares, but that leaves races like halflings and such obsolete and unlikely to ever be used again because of rare restrictions. That would also pretty much nix any Healer survivability dependant on how many rares can be worn and make people fighting Healers lay on easy street.
Shamans would have a hay day and beat the hell out of practically everyone with mediocre saves as people would no longer be able to hold onto that -100 or better maladictive saves (at a hit to their hitroll and damroll of course). Invokers would own as people would have a hard time trying to get the required saves to prevent fireball and other Invoker spell deaths as everyone would be going after the good saves no matter what the other benefits of armor are on them. That would make it to where all armor pieces would have to be redesigned to suit the new rare limits set on everyone. Mages dependant on both saves and HP will be in a bind as there are only a few HP AND saves gear available, and they usually have a low limit as to how many can be in circulation at once. This would make them have to choose between whether they want to go with +40 HP items and -5 saves to spells for once the other things are out. Which in the end would possibly make some people lose all interest in the game in all for having such a simple matter change like that.
That's probably why it hasn't changed since the first time it was mentioned, nor will it be changed at least now and the near future. All depends on the way this game is going, and I don't think it'll ever head in that direction, as the game is farely balanced out. Those who are decked out in all rares usually end up dying as a Ninja finds them and everyone knows how much they love Ninjas and assassinate. There's always someone who screws up and does something wrong to cause their own death, so people don't keep things forever. Granted there are some people who have kept the same things for months at a time (IE: Healers), but even they get their own in the end.
Between getting caught unaware and rare purge, even the most careful and survivable player will lose equipment.
Well said. <---- that was re: Tatangel, damn chayesh and his speedier replies.
Thanks for the informative post Tantangel. Oh well, I guess I just brought it up cause I'm one of those people who can't find the good rares... ![]()
