You quit using venom sacks, Ill quit using nymph hearts.
Would you play a Drow Necromancer?
Someone actually made a drow necromancer. Can't wait for him to learn what I quickly did when I made and pinned one.
[ Drow ] Korzryxx the Greater Golem Maker
Newb.
I doubt they are also gonna learn they are a gay necrophiliac because of a drow necro.

Now now, when has Tassin used venom sacks?
wait. how the hell is this thread 17 pages long!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Cause its a big issue? Duh
cast 'ANIMATE CORPSE'
I was bored, searching if Lichs were a selection class, when I fond this little silly pearl of fun. Quite an interesting read, full of humor.
I would play one simply just to play one. I don't see a downside to really playing one other than the Ankh thing. And even then, now at least with the orb from the Goblin Guard, it makes them more viable.
Not going to bother reading this entire thread, but just wanted to say that the defensive perks to any necro non-illithid is a trade-off for the illithid racials. I bet Mindflayer or some of the other pro necro players could do very well with one.
Without the illithid cone hitting, you are going to have to be fast on your feet to chase them down if your zombies aren't lag-locking them. The staying power of a drow with staff parry can help in a lot of battles vs people who can stand up to you. When a necro has you on the defensive, you're basically dead unless you can out maneuver/run them.
I personally think a drow necro could do extremely well, you just have to play differently than you would with a squid. Squids I see as the ultimate zombie necro. I think a drow who capitolized on their naturally high defensive ability could do quite well by using a more spellcasting side. Playing similar to a shaman, with the ability to close with power word kill
If you're good with necros as a class, the race doesn't matter too much. Personally though, I'd go avian before drow...and it's mainly because of the sanc source issue.
Take it from me - I sucked equally with a drow as I did with a squid necro at lvl 50. That being said, IMHO, it's now that a drow is 'gimped' per se - simply an illithid has more advantages.
Much like a giant melee vs a human melee.
Drow:
Curse weapon/parry (there used to be a +50hp staff - however a builder has removed it with the area it was in, I believe);
Autosneak (less useful with zombies);
Higher dex (ac, however I think that is over rated on a necro);
Vuln that is hard to exploit.
Squid:
Cone of force;
Leech;
Shock;
Mental resistance;
Vuln is relatively easy to exploit (non-rare weapon for it);
More hp via trains due to int/wis.
IMHO - mostly what defines is the extra HP a squid gets just from the int/wis stats and being able to put that into HP. Shock and the rest is nice - but its that base HP that really helps out. Ask Pominsu - I'm sure the player of this character posted they abandoned saves at one point and loaded HP gear - giving them 1200hp.
Both builds can (and will) sleep death the same people at lvl 50. Ask all the ogre's and giant's I crept up on. As this accounts for 80%+ of all my kills on necro's is also the reason I'm not that great with the class.

I had 1500 HP at one point, after ditching saves. Seemed to do a helluva lot better, too.
I was a noob then though. ![]()

I said just the other day:
"I should just play a melee ninja - the few times you can't stand and bang you can fall back to assassinate."

I have played a few successful necro's, although this was in my "I want a Lich" phase, so it was all build-up and never really just went for a necro in a cabal. I found pk to be really easy on humans, although blm's can be a real pain.
I think Drow Necro is a very viable option. There are a lot of interesting nuances regarding zombie selection that can change things up for you. Having a good knowledge of zombies, and a cabal that helps accentuate those skills and you should be able to make an impression.
See, it sucks that we are in that stage of FL when everyone makes power combos and not combos for RP or concepts. It's all about the best race with the best class with the best eq in the best cabal...
Well best is relative. I don't play a game to suck at it.
