Lastly, I don't understand how people would for example learn how to go through gear unless an insider showed them. Fact is, we keep knowledge so secret and all it does is help the few insiders with imm contacts and such know information and have an advantage over others. We need a freedom of information act.
This is true and untrue, we should volunteer information on a whole about everything really. Obviously some things should be like ooo wtf was that for people but other things should be told freely.
As for Gear, that place has SO many clues about how to advance throught it I dont know how you cant figure it out. Take the time and the patience to look around and revel in the majesty that IS gear, rather then wanting to get to adeptus as quickly as possible. - this applies to everyone.
I learned Gear by logging the entire trip and studying that lag. I don't recall ever having to ask anyone OOCly for information there.
I only recently discovered the answer to one of the puzzles in there, but luckily there are other puzzles for that part lol
The answers made me want to punch myself in the face.
There are things in Gear that very very few people have discovered, and yes there are hints. Even people that -think- they've discovered everything.
I have discovered a few interesting things in gear myself. some funny funny stuff. Even if you already got one.

This is a horrible misconception about how the protection of quest information works.
you can ASK and FIND OUT.....ANYTHING for almost ANY quest IN GAME. RP is your option, and with the restrictions on the forum it is your only option. So yeah, someone who knows gear can teach someone else, in game, you just wont find a walkthrough on any official FL site.
In game, through RP I have helped people find the dragons, find the temples, finish gear, call order, do the anduin line, any number of things....just always in some IC fashion in the game itself.
I like it when people are RPing about gear, not just saying ok, we do this this this as fast as possible, and you new guy dont say or touch ANYTHING!
Personally I want people to hit those traps, and read mob descs, and item descs, and room descs. Its like driving a ferrari to go get a pizza. Your only going for pizza, so the ride loses its fun. Start driving your ferrari to drive it
I personally like efficient runs through gear/deso. I want it to be quick, simple, and efficient.
I have played FL since 1.0 and I will be honest I don't know any of the high level areas that we are talking about. I don't really care if I know or don't know. As long as I am with someone who knows it efficiently. I usually PK for rares from those areas. Why take 45 minutes to an hour to to grind through Gear when I can pk the guy who did in as little as 5 minutes?

The point is someone made these areas and some of us would like to explore them and enjoy the riddles and puzzles these areas were designed to present us with. But they're not all that doable by yourself. It's meant to be a group experience. And when one or two people are just using it as an equipment run, it's pointless. You may as well PK for it if you aren't going to enjoy the world for what it is.
And the fact that most of us haven't found everything about it says just that. People go there for the equipment. and what has been found has not truly been spread throughout the community. Some people enjoy holding a secret to themselves.
truth- in a bottle.
DRINK UP!
that is the problem i have, i don't know how to navigate any of the post 50 quest areas and I can actually never find a group to go there, even for a quick run to log and figure things out. lol. I tend to do very well before 50 then once i get to 50 suffer because i just dont know the areas or the items. i know of maybe 20 lvl 50 items and most of them i dont know where to find them, and if i was told wouldn't even know how to navigate the area.
You know guys, there are maps for most of the lvl 50 badass areas.
PS. I don't know gear too, and I don't need to know it to woop you asses

You missed the point. A) You can't do most of them on your own.
It should be a group experience. C) It's about willingness to enjoy the area. D) And it all ties into sharing it all to further playerbase experience and retention.
It all ties in with the original post thus far. And, yes, you probably could whoop our asses, but it would be nice to experience these areas rather than just swooping through and grabbing the gear and getting out.
When I brought up the point about secret knowledge, that was only a small part of my point. But besides gear who would know to give the fear to the avatar in kaer banor? Maybe I'm just stupid, I don't know. But as far as all info goes, for example in the pk log of oppressant vs that berserker, oppressants log shows "you do something" "your something MASSACRES him" well
a) if it's a piece of eq which some do get blacked out of logs, now I dont have enough info to maybe get a cleric to try and locate it or if I saw a mob carrying it, i wouldn't try and attempt to gain it on my own or get a team to.
Maybe it's a cabal skill which now I won't know about so maybe I take the time to master everything with a char, get into a cabal only to either choose the wrong cabal for that character or perhaps the wrong division of that cabal. Or maybe I'm fighting a person with that cabal skill and I don't know how to defend against it because I don't know how it works.
I guess everyone who starts out should be like the early civilizations who did everything by trial and error. Just kill all sorts of mobs to see what that eq does. I don't know the TRUE rationalization behind it, I could be way off.
Also I never knew you could ask the location of a shrine or quest IG either, I thought that was supposed to be some top secret stuff even IG.

My point, Valek, was that you guys pay way too much attention to gear. Just look at how many people are complaing about lack of EQ.
Even know when we speak of RP, people start complaining that they don't know the high level areas. You know what? You don't need to know them.
The Avatar in Kaer Banor gives you a riddle.
As for the shrines, I've said things like "I've heard the proper place to kneel in worship is somewhere near...." and let them do some exploring.
As for Oppressant, well, figuring out what THAT is takes some time and some experience with fighting. I'd done enough level 50 fights in my first four years th at I know what it is and what nasty affects it has. That's just straight-up first hand experience and you'll get that easily enough as you play. It'll just come to you eventually rather than you having to seek it out.
I know, it seems like I'm being a cryptic jerk, but sometimes it's more fun to experience than to be told.

I'm not complaining about gear. I'm complaining about not being able to do these areas. They're GREAT RP potentials there as they are part of the world that should be included. You NEED groups and when you have people working together to get through these things then it promotes RP and group interaction. It's part of the purpose of the quest areas.
And, yes, people do need to know them. The knowledge needs to be passed down. Generation to generation to generation. I'm ashamed to have been here as long as I have and I can't help new people with these areas.
The only way that the people who know how to run through these areas for efficiency rather than role play/learning experience was to go with groups who ran through it. Sooner or later you will learn the basics to get through. At that time you can start leading people through and go at your own pace so you can learn all the little secrets that no one knows about.
Are you saying you want someone to tell you how to do it or are you wanting to learn through practical application?
