So I was Talking to my son;

you guys pay way too much attention to gear.

Now -that- is ironic.

The only way that the people who know how to run through these areas for efficiency rather than role play/learning experience was to go with groups who ran through it. Sooner or later you will learn the basics to get through. At that time you can start leading people through and go at your own pace so you can learn all the little secrets that no one knows about.

Are you saying you want someone to tell you how to do it or are you wanting to learn through practical application?

You should only need to go through gear one time (and log it) to be able to lead the next time.

That's IF you learn that way.

I need a memorable experience, I need to be immersed in it. run kill run kill someone does something run kill run kill grab loot group disperses memorize log.....$&**$###@* LAME!

EDIT: I should probably explain my emotional reaction to the idea of log and memorize is that it doesn't promote anything except knowledge of gear and a "map" of the area. I really want people to use these quest areas to maybe bring out more about their characters, find some way to use it to enhance their RP, not sit their and think OOCly the first time they take a new character there "Oh, I've done this before, seen this before, blah blah blah". Treat the area for what it is. Some place beyond ordinary, spectacular, godly.....stop seeing code and room descriptions. Breathe some LIFE into it. Make it memorable for other people. Make it memorable for yourself.

EDIT2: This would also help us get rid of that static dead feeling....hint hint

If you can't learn to go west because you saw someone go west....well, not much I can do for you

Once you know the area, you can RP it however you see fit. Some of my characters RP in gear A LOT...others are just there to get the equipment to get powerful.

Now -that- is ironic.

Burn me more baby.

too hot for sunblock

I learnt Gear the same way, I logged it, went through it and set up a notepad with directions and instructions on it of what to do etc. I recently tried to teach someone how to play but I was half way through the creation stage and the person already started complaining that he was bored.

Personally I don't really mind rolling a character because I just set up triggers, but a first time player most probably won't do this and won't know what a good roll is either.

I also think we need more low level quests like the first guild quests and Tamara's quest to help explain in a bit of detail where areas are and what can be found there. Perhaps a quest at about level 17 that sends Good's to Thalos so they can learn where to find some better equipment to make life a bit easier for them.

New players in this game are so far behind with knowledge that we need some way of helping them catch up a bit quicker. It was alright back in the day when pretty much everyone was in the same boat, but the gap of skill and knowledge is just too big between old and new players.

Btw, It's good to be back in the mud.

Yeah I logged gear in 1.0 when I went through there with tyroa. Must have been one of the first gear trips ever.

...My kid likes DBZ...

I know the topic has changed a lot since the start, though... Did you then direct him to a DBZ MUD? Did he enjoy it?

He likes Dragon Ball Z...You like FL. You want FL to turn into DBZ so you can play together?

FL should be easier to just pick up. I have always said that. But it does not need Super Sayans and Pokemon.
