Im curious why we do this, it only elevates vets, and lowers new players. Years ago it added a level of mystique, and awe to the game, now I see it as adding more frustration.
Im not saying hand out a pamphlet on the quest answers/completion requirements, nor am I saying breakdown exactly how a class functions 100%, but I have had several people message me over the years asking questions about various qraces (mostly sader, and psis) and as a player I WANT to help them, I want to tell them everything I know so they can hopefully do something amazing that I never would have thought of, but they spend their entire chars life trying to grasp the basic fundamentals of the class cause they did not know the basics to start off with, giving them very little opportuniy to expand their tactics, since they spent 25-30 lives getting down the basics.
So why not let those people who have never played a class have some basic knowledge of how the class operates. It is not going to unbalance anything, since they will still have to play the class to transfer theoretical knowledge to practical knowledge. I believe if people had access to the overview of a class it would cause them to build that char in their mind, leading to a larger expanse of RP oriented characters from players attempting their first run at a qclass (Remember when liches came out, we had a surplus of well RPed evils who had depth, and feeling to their character, not just butchers of evil)
All the silence does is make people quit their q's.
I bring back my old example, when I got my first Avatar, I didnt even know the Call command existed.
It took an Imm asking me after I had died, why I didnt use avatar abilities at all. This being 10 - 15 deaths after getting the class.
I think the things we do sensor about Q's are just plain pointless. Anyone can get any info from just asking folks, and I assure you most folks are not nearly as tight lipped as Twins implies he is. The problem is, newer players do not know even who to ask.
Now if these bits of knowledge had some kind of in game hidden lore to seek out and find, thats great, but it doesnt. There is no magic help file for say cancellation and a certain qclass. Another qclass/qrace and their hidden survivability ability. So you leave people no place to even learn, aside from OOC, and then do not provide any reliable source of info.
It would seem almost responsible to provide a limited guide on qclass/qraces, highlight a few of their abilities, but leave others mysterious. Surely though outlining those things that you have to randomly smash keys and hit enter to find would be the most beneficial thing you could do for q's.
Yea. So you don't accidentally find sweet abilities while trying to create your cabal weapon

I know 2 of that qclass that deleted without ever knowing they could do certain things that would of definatly solved the problem they were having with deaths.
I remember getting my Psi and accidentally hitting my invoker cancellation alias. After it I scoured the helpfiles for the class and nothing even hinted at the fact I had such an ability as what I stumbled on. Needless to say I was happy and angry. and proceeded to type in as many 3 letter words as I could think of hoping to stumble across more hidden commands lol.
In all of these situations no one has mentioned asking staff about help with thier qclass/race. As far as I'm aware, being that I'm relatively new, although from my experiance on the player side, if you have the qclass, or qrace, as your character, and ask staff for help with it, its usually provided.
Although each of us on staff have the race/classes we're best with, we've all had some sort of experiance with every race and class, whether its just been fighting them, or having played them ourselves. Basically between us, we have every qrace and qclass covered. Try asking us for help, its what we're here for.
I just think there are some players who could qualify to give information and tips out without the need to clog up the prayer forum with "what does a crusader do" questions.
I understand imms are very helpful, and try hard at what they do and are more often than not amazingly valuable to this community, just sometimes we can would like to be taught how to fish instead of being given a fish.
Im a republican, what can I say.
The problems being talked about here stem from the (lack of) in-game documentation, not from forum censoring. That is a much more viable and useful route to take this.
If you want to write a help file for a qskill that isn't made apparent in the game, please do so and post it on prayer!

it is a combination of lack of in game documentation AND censorship.
On other undocumented non qrace specifics, there is no issue, as questions can be asked.
I would gladly do that, help files need to be written on Call, Burrow, and something added to the psi help file about their abilities, just off the top of my head. Call should also have help files linked to it on each level, what unlocks, and what it does.
no, i want the masses to figure out what the best course of action would be with the information available to them. I always have, and will di ve into the new and unknown because i love doing new stuff so i can figure it out myself.
You, however, will always be a mustard thieving pessimist pothead.
So... you want the masses to get handouts, just not you?
And since when have I been a pessimist?

Let's not turn this into a political thread of whose more Democrat than the other, please? Thanks.
Agreed, keep it in the OOC lounge.
No political intentions. Just teasing Nameless a bit.
I really think it is a missed avenue to attract new members. The qclass and races are the best, most independently origional concepts the mud offers. Each qclass, especially, is a different approach to the game in many ways.
I have often thought what the game would evolve into if the existing qclass, qraces became accesible throug simple remort quests, no imm needed. We would have just as many vamps as crusaders to slay them. Avatars galore, at lvl 15, damnit, like the file say!
Of course i wish training was not neccesary and you could join cabals as easy as clans at 30. Lesss grind, more time for pk and rp
I also agree with remort quests.
If there is 1 vampire, why aren't there 20? Why does he have to be rogue, why can't HE make other vampires. Why isn't Vampirism a disease that humans can get infected with, why do you have to ask nicely for it.
So many questions, so few answers.

well hell twins, look at the in game coded Vampire lore. The Masquerade, the feeling other undeads pain, the hierarchy built into the very skills, Elder Vampires! All this goes wasted, but has got to be one of the coolest things on the mud (I bet many reading this didnt even know elder vamps existed).
I mean we say in the past, hell everyone will roll vamps, and it will be unfair. I do not see how, when every aggressive goody could run the avatar quest, or we end up with lvl 30 prae knight crusaders.
I loved my crusader but he was so plagued with bugs it made him basically unplayable. sigh
