Close this forum down until 2009.

we're low in the rankings pretty much until anything like the MUD website changes anyway. my idea is to shut down this forum completely, save for immortal posts.

reason: this forum serves no real purpose these days except for people asking what's wrong with this skill or tell me about that expertise and how i should roll the perfect for whatever it is.

effect: it takes any and all imagination out of this game, and it's been getting worse. we have no new people anyway, and threads begging for the exact spelling out of all skills and spells and combos and qraces and cats and dogs and what's wrong with this cabal skill and that brand of detergent has made this game a pre-known quantity before players even log in.

support: this game will not die because the forum took a 4 month vacation. and in fact, my theory is that it would strengthen.

Malch' went through quite a bit of trouble to get it back up not very long ago.

No new players? I personally know of several different people that are new here. Some I've brought, and some have asked me for advice over pm/aim

I think the imms do a fairly good job regulating what is able to be talked about, and what is not. Even though I've been here a bit over a year now, I still find useful information every day!

Wow, desperate arent they?

ROFL! Burn.

So when some newbie comes in and get absolutely trounced by some guy because the new player doesn't know how to defend against a common skill/spell combo... he'll be so glad no one was able to help him in the situation and keep playing. 'Cause if he came here to the forums and asked, he'd get so upset someone gave him the answer or hints to find the answer and leave. Interesting... it's so crazy it just might work...

Can new people even find the forum? :D

If I find someone in game who I think is new and would benefit from the forum I write a note to the Imms with their name and ask that they direct them here.

I've done it with about 3-4 characters lately.

I have ran into three charatcers in the last month that where obviously new and learning very quickly.

hell, last night we had upwards of 40 on at some times. Not the 60 + of ancient years, but still up from the average.

The forum's purpose is community, and, as far as I can tell, it does a fine job at that. People talk to each other about lots of things, game based and not, like friends tend to do.

And I don't know what magical forum you think used to exist, but this is pretty much the same as it was two years ago, just with less people. There has always been, since the first forum, people posting questions about specifics of skills/spells/cabals/you name it. There has always been people who bitch about x being over powered, and y needing to be stronger (I know, because I was one of those whiny tools on the first forum.)

But outside that, why are you worried about the imagination of other people? Other players lack of imagination doesn't hurt you at all. I play the game how I want to play it, you go ahead and play it with a focus on pure rp over functionality. You'll have fun how you want, I'll have fun how I want. Let the people who want to post on the forum continue to post on the forum, and if you want to save your imagination from the supposed damage done here, you can easily take a four month long break. That way everyone who wants a break gets one, and everyone who wants community gets it, win win.

I refuse to listen to another crackbrained goldbond theory, until I see some evidence that I should stop going to the movie theater and using my credit card.

I think shutting the forum down would be a very bad idea.

All the jesting, posturing, and general information that flows through the threads of this site really flesh out the mud for a newcomer.

Without knowing some of the friendly people you run into here, FL would be a VERY harsh place.

In a more serious note... if you wanted people to stop posting what ever they think is "wrong" with the game and be more civil or strategic with their complaints, then why don't you start the curve and not post on the regular forums and bring it to the prayers section for suggestion?

That way, you could start a new trend of making people who have problems bring it to those who can change it, instead of coming here crying wolf or a falling sky and pissing off some people. Will those in charge want to take you seriously if you're inciting a Jihad for change? Or will they rather listen to you if you start a civil discussion, one on one, and try to build a nice rapport and happy discourse?

Also, seriously? Just because no one here likes you doesn't mean that the rest of us don't enjoy the community.

TBH, that is exactly what I first thought when I read the suggestion

No offense.

hey if everyone disagrees that's fine with me. it must show i'm wrong on this, but i maintain that the game would actually improve with a long forum vacation. idea: killed. cool.

one last note to those who thought i was actually wanting tighter Imm control over what can be posted about and what can't be. that's not what i was getting at all. what i think this forum does to kill this game, once again, is make the game a pre-known quantity before even playing it. it's a trend that we're all guilty of when disguising ideas as thinly veiled requests for total information about whatever aspect the "idea" is about. then all the vets can't wait to chime in and show how much they know about the aspect and so on. in the end, the thread spells everything out.

when i first started here, i didn't get jack #### from the forum. the only reason i even looked at the forum was to get amused by the flame warz started by Tindal, and read about how so and so totally kicked that guy's *** and so forth. it was only for amusement. and giving this forum a break might make this a game, first and foremost, for a change.

If people actually came here asking questions that were decent question instead of, "How does Bash consider size compared to AC and Dex?" and more like, "I was wondering if Size has something to do with Bash? And How do I determine the size of a race while playing?" then they would get answers.

As for Vets spilling information... I thought I just read something a month ago that was crying about how Vets never shared any info. That alone should prove how you can't please everyone.

Anyways, if anything gets out that shouldn't be out, let the Staff know. Let the offending player know, politely and through PM, and then hopefully the info can be snared and redmarked or whathaveyou.

As for what you're saying about full disclosure, I'd really like to know what posts you're talking about. Because I can't think of a single post in all this forum that explains how any skill or spell or quest works down to the finest detail. Find me one that wasn't common knowledge (IE: Not a newbie quest and one not explained by the IMMs) and I'll give you a prize.

Let's not use this thread as an opportunity to take shots at each other. I think we can all get our points across and still be civil.

Wow' date=' desperate arent they?[/quote']

You're mean

And I typed out a nice little burn, but as soon as I posted it, I read Zhokril's post, so I had to come back and edit this one. It was a good burn, too. It had sheep involved.

i think these forums would be more entertaining if they were more like the forums of old, where everyone was an *******. just my 2 cents. please don't ban me again.

edit: for clarification, those seven asterisks spell out a-s-s-h-o-l-e. don't want any confusion as to what seven letter word i was using.
