Stealing an idea that was recently posted and growing it a little....
It would be cool for a bard to be in every cabal to be their spokesman.
They don't need the cabals skills. It wouldn't fit them. In fact, other than maybe one cabal specific bard skill (for a little flavor), all the cabal spokespersons could get the same set of skills.
Hmmmm.....
I'll take this idea a little farther.
Dissolve the Heralds.
Since each cabal will have a spokesperson. what do we need Heralds for?
And if we need one "old style" Herald for something, let's just appoint one as like the Avatar of Neutrality or something, Messenger of the Gods, Scripter of the Stone of Ages, etc...
This would free up Herald cabal abilities for these spokesperson's and what not....and I better hit the shower before I get yelled at again....I keep trying to explain to her the forums are not the same as being in the mud....I didn't say anything about not reading or writing on the forums...mutter
I've failed to see the point of heralds anyway. Atleast how anyone could ever have fun playing one.
As a person who has been in every cabal from 1.0 till now, with the exception of Warmaster... The Heraldry has proved to be one of the most challenging time and time again... We all have our opinions, but here is one person that does not want to see FL lose one of it's best assets.
I think we should have "Bard Day". A day like Halloween that everyone has to be a bard, gets to 50, and dukes it out.
No.
Thank youuuuu...
Man, I love playing Heralds. Its a Cabal that has a lot of diplomatic flexibility, and purpose flexibility in general. You just gotta get creative members in there making things happen. Ask Isadora, she's been trying to get awesome stuff happening for a while.
Your cabal elder is your spokesperson.

You mean because it's not a PK cabal?
Heralds are the one cabal that has had the fewest problems across the many iterations of FL. It's probably the stablest, least problematic part of FL there is.
traditionally here, heralds have been charged with recording Aabahran events for posterity, among other things; they've kept up with the responsibility better at some times than others, but it's a very important task regardless. without people to write things down, who's going to know the facts a year from now. all the essential MUD history being made by the Nexus, WM, Tribunal etc top dogs, who's going to remember any of it with accuracy as time passes.
Case in point:
Without Shandronas, who would have known about the Child of Lies plot?
Your cabal elder is your spokesperson.
I'm thinking that cabal elders have better things to do. Well, unless the cabal is Herald.
RE: Myrek -- You're wrong. Being an elder/leader is all about finding time to send notes/keep the cabal running as well as your other cabal duties.
If you don't think you have the time or the inclination - then IMO you shouldn't be and E or an L. Its like running a business almost, you have to have your finger on the pulse.
As for the Heralds. They play an important role in FL... IF you think they are useless then thats your own fault because YOU must be UNDER UTILIZING your own resources ie: the Heralds.

Sort of agree here. E is that first rank that provides some sort of authority. You become more involved with cabal politics, 'overseeing' lower ranked members and clannies and being the 'model' caballer for others to follow. Not necessarily saying you have to pen out three notes a day, but involvement is a big part of being Elder and Leader.
Dey
To use your business example... I'm saying that warriors are warriors first. Dark knights are dark knights first. Bards are bards first. In my business experience, you assign people work who are qualified for it, not because they're the boss and they're good enough. When in doubt, hire a professional.
I agree on both parts to some extent. I think you should be a warrior first if that's your class, but more importantly you should be your ethos and Cabal before your class is even mentioned though some of them can all go hand in hand. However even if your character doesn't know how to write, utilizing those around you who CAN do so as an Elder or Leader is a must, you can't just expect violence to always work especially if you're good as you have to be a little more verbal than normal. Hell in most cases you can do both especially if you're evil, you'll have actions to back up your words and no one will try and keep you down unless someone knows they can beat you of course and have done it before.
