I have noticed for quite some time the various questions on different spells usually involve what category they fall into. Now for a vast majority it is pretty easy to figure out, however there are the few that can be a bit hazy or misleading. I am suggesting that in the help file of each spell it categorize what type(s) it would fall into. Also, what type does sleep fall into, I believe it is mental?

Sleep is mental.
Think of it this way:
Afflictive are offensive spells intended to hurt - Think Hellstream, Flame arrow.
Maledictive tends to change the status of your health - Think poison, plague.
Mental attempts to alter your mental state or things that affect you - Think dispel magic, sleep.
It is supposed to be a little hazy, just to force players to experiment a little bit.
