Codewise, how does this work?
If you attack a Tribunal, PERIOD, it's obstruction?
Does a criminal have to be online for obstruction to be a crime?
My problem is this:
I attack a Tribunal, outside of the city, where there are no laws...and I get wanted. Seems a little shady to me.
on a side note....having only broken the law once before and then surrendering to a Felony....it auto executes you? Felonies have full range of choice...how is execution selected from surrender code?
was there anyone wanted in the game at that time?
Yes. But the helpfile for obstruction simply says "Assaulting a Tribunal" If the area you are in does not have any 'laws' than you should be able to do whatever you want in that area. Including kill Tribunals. The Maxim doesnt even talk about Obstruction.
I dont know from my experience of attacking them, if a criminal is on at that time they can flag you, I have never had a flag from attacking one with no criminals on. Just my experience.
If they are pursueing a criminal they can mark you for assualting them....it's in one of the tomes in the library.
Auto-execute is only for atrocities. If you were autoexecuted, you committed an atrocity.
The trib was a ranger, the wanted was a ranger. The wanted may have been camo'd where you couldn't see him but the trib most likely saw him and was in pursuit.
Here you go to be more exact.
- Assaulting Tribunes Pursuing Criminals
It is a crime to prevent a Tribune from doing their job
in apprehending criminals, even unintentionally, by
assaulting them while they are in search or pursuit.
A Tribune must always give a warning to the person who
is attacking him or her, however, before marking them
a criminal. If they ignore the warning and continue
to assault, they are to be marked for obstruction, a
felony-class crime. A warning is not needed if the
Tribune was already in combat with the criminal at
the time of the assault.
That's in Obstruction of Justice
i was wanted for obstruction in valmiran...i went and checked, it was only a felony.....but it is late....maybe i didnt line up the chart right. And in that post above mine....."a felony class"
I'm not real sure how the area gets decided for wanting works. I marked someone for obstruction and they were flagged in the swamp or the ford if I remember right but they committed the crime in the outer limits.
I have had newbie tribs who are not hunting a criminal that sits in town with no intentions of hunting the criminal get attacked by me, and still will flag me saying he is hunting a criminal. I think maybe if they truely are hunting they should have to do something like when someone other then Syndicate wishes to collect a bounty they have to take the contract out. that way if they are not actually hunting the criminal and they flag they can be delt with in some form.
I'm pretty sure a Tribunal can mark you wanted no matter what. If you have comitted no "crimes" per se codewise, then it just slaps an obstruction on you. It's the "wild card" for tribs.
I've been wanted in Haon Dor before, weird stuff.
A Trib has to warn you that he is persuing a criminal before he can want you.
You attack a trib.
Trib says, i'm huntin a criminal! Leave me alone! (Stops there, then no harm, no foul)
You attack Trib again, you are wanted. (Send all violations to Prax/Martineius)
I think there is a bug somewhere in the code that remembers you commiting crimes. I'm not 100% sure because I haven't found one that will test my theory out.
One thing that could happen is the trib could be made to actually mark the crime and the criminal.
For instance: wanted y Teurlain murder....something along those lines. That way if you attack them in town, two lawful witnesses witness you attack someone/something, they are actually in hot pursuit/search mode.....I don't know they would have to put in the exact crime or they would get penalized for it maybe.
i attacked the guy and got wanted with no warning....LAME then got executed when i surrendered....LAME
Sounds like an IC matter to me.
I don't like that rule either Zrothum, attacking a tribunal while a criminal happens to be on. I got attacked all the time by mad people when I defended my cabal against nexus as Aeden. Nothing I could do to them about it. But it's tribunal, and nothing will be changed.

Not true. You could kill them. With, I might add, any and all cabal powers at your command.
Same with Tribunal.
Same with any cabal. You attack someone when they are on cabal business, expect them to come after you. If you attack a Nexus while he's fighting Knights, do you expect him not to go for you?
Sounds to me like people just want to be able to take potshots at Tribunals, then run away and hide in cities if they are in trouble/lose.
Yeah I know Raargant, but there was nothing I myself could do about it. Just get frustrated.
Note to Knight.
Note subject Soandso.
Note + This bastard is helping the Nexus and attacking me while I defend our home. If you see him, kill him until he cries uncle.
Note send.

Yeah, that obstruction is bs.
Tribunal kills unwanted while two wantes are online. I kill Tribunal for killing unwanted brother of light. Tribunal marks me wanted for obstruction.
Basically the rule of thumb is, just dont' play games with them. It's complete BS what goes on half the time, but they are not JUSTICE, they are some friggin empire who can do what they want. So either mass kill them all or just stay away.
