It does tend to take away from those who do rank a multitude of characters to 50' date=' just to see what is what. I think it's a great way to liven things up sometimes. I've rolled characters that I've given up on at 20 and I do the same thing on madness and find out it's a rocken class!
Its not really a bad thing to have pk madness. Its fun, it isn't stressful when you die and the DIs aren't really that big of a thing. Viri didn't have a problem with it, so why should the current staff stop it? Its not like everyone doesn't know them through OOC crap anyways. And if its THAT big of a deal, take them out for the time. Madness has been around for a long *** time, since late 1.0 to early 2.0. Thats a long time. Didn't mess with anything then, and it won't now.
I've always enjoyed the fact that it's the ONE break from the norm. A very rare and unique twist to the strictly enforced RP rules. Where one can roll their nicks and play their fav race/class combo and beat the hell out of each other, giving bragging rights where they're due. Or for Bali to get revenge. I know of no other MUD that did/does that for the pbase. And like WC said. It's tradition. Doesn't mean that tradition can't be broken, but still. Well, tradition can be twisted to say that it's a reward for (some of) those that log. Not all that newbie friendly, that day. I've only played in one in the 5-6 years I've been here. But I had fun, and can say that I've done it. So I'm happy either way.

I believe it pulls the community closer together. I was in the most recent (or the one right before it) where one team assaulted Shasarazade. Under the leadership of Despy our team sat in Unicorn Glade and started summoning until it was time and it was an all out war in the elven city. The mayham gives us all a few laughs and lets those 'handles' spend a day with each other rather than being seperated by the wall that is IG RP. It's a family building event.
Haven't done it yet, but I imagine it'd help with my PK shakes.
So we doing it or not? I haven't once heard someone saying that it is going to happen;) . I say sweet bring the mass mayhem on!

I've been here for 8 years, I just counted. I've never actually done the halloween madness... I didn't know at first, then I was like damn I missed that!? Then the next year I forgot and went trick or treating... And all that blah! The few times I remembered, I wasn't able.
I wanna do one! lol.
I rememered the first time i went to log on not knowing that the madness was going to happen, it did tick me off to not be able to play my chracter who i was very interested in at the time. But then i said well it's not like i'm not going to play....rolled up a ogre ranger and went mass pking. I Love the Madness, it helps me work on my pk and it's fun. People dying left and right, some of them actually at my hands, Pumkin armor and weapons falling from go knows where. It's a rush. Oh yeah sopmeone mentioned firestorming the whole crowd, in one madness i got close...had a dk rolled up was summoned to do the whole capture the flag thing, was like thirty people and imms in the same room, i couldn't resist FIREBALLING everyone, course i died right after that, but came right back and did it again. till i was politely asked to stop, well not so politely.
Last madness I did, Got my Cabaled char given like 5 or 10000 health/mana. GODS that was fun! <3 Mircea! Actually was able to pk with her with that much health/mana but course talk about taking forever to heal that when I did get hit by four or five chars that killed me. Wow. Otherwise, I dont like pk madness to much. Too much chaos!

The Viri-BOT would say let the Easter Madness begin but only if we reach the top 10 on the TMS!!!
That is brilliant.
I love madness. It's good to have every once in a blue moon imho for one reason. There's ALWAYS something you want to play just to be a pk clown, yes clown, funny like a clown funny...amuse yourself. But you really don't have the time for it, or the RP reasons to do it. I think that it brought some levels of inspiration to a lot of players (many new characters were rolled after the last one) and having that char without any need for RP may be a good way to boost RP ideas for newly rolled chars.
