I have no idea how he even got bellow 50% HP. Probably the blood guard. He is the real hero.
I can't frenzy or provide a decent blessing, but with him being neutral, he can't be protected against.
I get feared, droping proficiency for 10%, if this still works the same.
And I never in my life ever seen someone one lose both the weapon and shield to an icestorm.
The shield was providing protection from Evil. I was under sanctuary vs all damage, I think.
