cliff face. You are getting closer to the seashore, and the great
chasm that has lead to it has all but ended here at the cliffs.

applied to the granite, responsible for the blinding gleam, no doubt used to
reinforce the already impressive fortress.

reinforce the already impressive fortress.

The path widens greatly here, with miscellaneous rocks thrown here and
there. The footing is smooth, round granite gravel, and small trees and
shrubs have sprouted up on either side of the canyon. The walls of the
Chasm still rise up hundreds of feet to your right and left, but seem to
be diminishing in height slowly.

The path narrows here, and begins a small incline to the north. Massive
formations of granite are all around you, worn smooth over time by wind
and water. It is really quite beautiful the way the layers of rock lie
on top of veins of white quartz rock. Several small bushes grow now in
the floor of the chasm, meaning that this part must get some sort of
rain once in a while.

The face of the decline falls away several hundred feet to a field
of sharp rocks below. You think you can make out what look like
crushed bones far below, but from this height, it's really hard to
tell. They could be trees. Hopefully.

The northern end of the Great Chasm
After walking for what seems like days, you've finally reached the
far northern end of the Chasm. The air here is much more balmy, and
the heavy red sandstone has given way to thick, gray granite. The
floor of the chasm is still smooth, and easy to travel, yet, oddly,
you can make out very old footprints, large ones, at that, set deep
within the canyon mud.

deeper and deeper into the Great Chasm.

A windy passage
The chasm narrows again, and you feel as if your again walking though
a wind tunnel. The steep rock faces on either side conduce the speed
of the wind, and dust and sand tear at your face and clothes as they're
carried on the high winds. You travel quickly over this place, trying
to find some shelter from the nasty, hot wind.
A large boulder rests to your east, seeming to cover a small opening.

A dark cavern
You stand within a cramped cavern. Some light still permeates from the
entranceway, showing that the tunnel leads off further eastward into
total darkness. Heat rises up here, and the air is humid, and smells
of heated sulfur. Moisture condenses on the walls here, and long stal-
actites hang from the ceiling.

Within the Cavern
Traveling further into the cavern, you find the tunnel widens. It looks
mostly hand hewn, as if someone or something years ago cut this out by
themself. The air has grown increasingly hot here, and the air is still
filled with moisture and humidity. The tunnel begins to descend a bit.
