Context

We had been fighting for about 10 or 15 mins, him mostly getting the upper hand.

I was trying to find a good weapon setup and pick a good moment. A lot of the skirmishes were quite one sided till this finale.

Looks like that halfling took a risk to get a win, and while it kind of worked the mobs finished the job for you. 

I am actually kind of surprised you said the fight didnt go your way before then, dont warriors usually beat rangers pretty handily? Your riposte looks like it was messing up his pets, and him being an archer does not really help him out much against you. 

Just grab a weapon he doesn't know, my choice would be mace and you'll destroy him.

No, it does not. That is the damage done without aura. With aura, most you can get out of auto proc is Lacerate. I really like shield warriors, but the last one I played I noticed their auto proc chance has been lowered severely and also their defense is not even close to the defensiveness of a warrior wielding a staff. Last experiment I did was exactly a drow, which I geared towards AC. Had -600 AC and was wrecked each and every fight, them landing on me with ease and me landing nothing dew to low hit/dam. I then switched to more hit/dam gear, but I was still getting wrecked. They are just not as defensive as the staff presents them.

I've definitely had a shield war hit me for mangles and dismember. Maybe your low damage was tied to hit dam numbers @kamikazi

I mean that shield bash was hitting for solid damage, considering this was a halfling it's not like his AC couldve been that bad. Without seeing his gear though, he could have like 300 ac or something low. Doubtful, but possible.

Back before I got "shield bash" changed, it used to hit my enemies for OBLITERATES. So, just think of that (it also silenced ((TAKE THAT MAGE LOVERS))).

Shield damage is less consistent than one would think. Also remember you're giving up fired weapons and a second weapon.

I have never played a shield warrior so I dont really know the damage range, or what it used to do. Was just saying from this log, it is a fairly short fight though, that it seemed like it was doing alright damage.

They didn't have sanction. I've seen folkes with normal attack for oblits in that situation. So its doing alright.

I posted a log on prayer from when I played Julsaard where some halfling's shield bashes were doing 2x more damage to a vamp than the vuln/wrath weapon he was wielding.  Does seem like the damage is excessive given the defense it permits.

Mmm Beer. I've played quite a few shield warriors. In order to gain shield bash, you sacrifice a DUAL WIELD and a FIRED WEAPON (lets say this is 3-4 attacks gone a round). It never seemed like shield lore improved the defensiveness of a warrior. Shield bash also goes 2 different ways, light shields vs heavy shields. The automatic shield bash doesnt even fire every round or every other round, it seems random. Most of the good effects of shield bash were removed. If anything, I think the auto shield bash should fire every other round like fired weapons.

I hear you and TBH it doesn't seem like a huge deal but if I recall correctly, a large shield gives shield masters similar protection to protective shield.  So in the fight I referenced above, the best abilities of the vamp were shutdown.  My thrusts just bounced off his shield and since there's no scroll to prevent passive shield-bash dmg (like there is with arrows), i was effectively taking more damage than I could output and he stalemated me until daylight came.  I was impressed but it seemed strange the shield damage was more than vuln weapon.

Wrong. It gives a very minor bash resistance. More to the damage than lag. I was consistently lag locked by not even enlarged giants on my drow. Shield lore took a few huge hits such as...You no longer protect yourself from bashes with the shield while you are blind...I've had 20 rounds of combat without auto proc proccing at all and I've sent logs to the Imms, but never heard back. I like the idea of making auto proc fire every other round like fired weapons. Gives a little bit more realiability and less randomness. You ARE sacrificing quite a lot in terms of attacks and you are definitely not more defensive than a staff wielding warrior like @Erelei keeps trying to convince me. Also adding a chance to protect yourself with the shield while blinded would make them a little bit more playable again. And sadly...trend is that this lore was designed towards helping smaller warriors against bigger guys, yet you can only be succsessfull with a giant shield master. As I said, I was consistently lag locked with -600 AC.  Maybe adding the ability to wield 2 handed weapons in one hand while wearing a shield and being a shield master could also add a little bit more flavor and be more welcoming to normal/small sized races. Just thinking out loud here. Yet the issue with the lag resistance it should provide, but it does not remains.

If you're not getting lag protection. You've doing it wrong, its literally saved me countless times.

Shield bash is potent. I would however admit that no one should have it without the Thrusting Shield edge.

When was the last time you played a shield warrior? Mine was 6 months ago. Maybe the things I mentioned were ok then...Now it is like this. You don't cover with the shield when bashed while blind, you don't return arrows, nor defend from them and there is little to none bash resistance. (which only matters in case you are not blind of course, cause only not blind you make use of your lore)

I believe mine was in 2017 or 2018. I don't remember specifically when. To my knowledge there hasn't been a change to shield lore since before my character.

I could be wrong.

I dont think anything is going to really make "small race" warriors "viable" against "large race" warriors.
