Bard songs were 100% worthless for the majority of their existence and I would argue are still pretty lackluster in their affects. I don’t, and will never see, veil and hiding stats as an OP ability. It does NOT affect combat if you’re good enough to pay attention to the verbs and calculate damage.

-33 would be good enough to save against sleep for most races, but that just seems brutal to a degree. Is it OP? No, not really. That is definitely pretty amazing though getting to see how those songs actually affect someone though. That description has got to take the cake just after the Blissful Falls specific ones. Those things do help a great deal towards a PK though for a majority of people. Most people aren't going to be counting percentages in their heads about what damage verb takes off X amount of HP though either. Chances are more likely that they'll stay in combat for X amount of time until they begin to feel uncomfortable. A lot of the lower damage hits will add up very quickly even if you're paying attention and without seeing your stats, where you are in relation to your enemy (especially when your enemy is demolishing you), and aren't capable of seeing exactly where you're going can be the end of you in most cases. It doesn't matter how good you think you are, that stuff creeps up on even the best of us. Sure it may not be an imminent thing, but it still can depending on how far you take it.

Will it be the end all of things though for everyone? No. You're looking at it hurting a majority who don't focus on those things or realize it, but the ones you continually fight will typically be the ones who are able to adapt to it more quickly. With the +3 levels to their songs landing it seems to hit their opponents far more easily now. It doesn't make sense though that lullaby landed so easily though through even -33 saves. It  seems rather painful, and after having seen so many Bards in action and having played two of them in the last year and a half myself, I try not to fight them after around level 40 or so. Those created instruments hit hard and since they're now the only weapon that no other class knows, it probably goes towards why their melee has been pretty strong in the past to boot. I'm interested in seeing more of them though, it at least gives a much wider perspective as a single instance isn't really enough to gauge how well something is doing or how awful it is. The game is still being tweaked from code that was written nearly 20 years ago now, so it goes to show how much of a long haul it has become to finally realize some of these things  we hadn't before.

As for the fight.... if you had such mal saves and approached a shaman, you would have been dead.

If you had such mental/aff saves and approached an invoker, you would have been dead, and much sooner too. She knows that since she fought my Amarylis quite a bit.

So generally, I see nothing wrong in this log. Especially when you consider that, judging by her score sheet, she isn't that well dressed.

Hell the log doesn't even have a clear winner.  By my reckoning she was still at quite a few when it finished which is not even close to dead for a paladin.

@f0xx I didn't realize you played that character too, but when I saw you online I kept thinking of the song from Shinedown. And no, the saves weren't the greatest, but I have saved against spells more often with less saves too. It was more the fact that it seemed to land first time every time rather than failing (I don't count the instance where he sung lullaby while Alexzandra was fighting already, though if it landed while in combat it would be a whole other situation). Despite the armor lacking though, she seems to hold her own very well, and her tactics work out well for her in the situations she is put in. I just say that overall it's hard to see from one log exactly how the changes are affected overall because you can't just gauge a situation from a singular instance and would have to be gauged over a more long term situation.

Since when?  Last time I checked, every character knows instruments to at least 75% proficiency, similar to exotics.

The immediate turn around in public opinion regarding bard songs is HILARIOUS. I literally didn't practice songs on Ilsurik because they would not land so I saved the practices.

People whined up and down during my time as Belderon and Ilsurik that bard weapons/melee is way too OP and now that the Staff is trying to make the necessary changes to fix that issue while making songs the center of the class again everyone wants to bitch that songs are OP or land too easily.. Y'all need to take a breather.

I've died to TWO bards ever. One was Darion when I was an inductee WM and the other was Kyros when I didn't know what magnificent solo did. Since then, not a single bard has managed to even come close to killing me. Its not that difficult to beat them.

I assumed since it's not a skill anyone can practice by normal means. It's still slightly gives the edge to the Bard though, since 75 < 100 pretty much any day. Regardless though, I still prefer to steer clear of them at least prior to the recent changes because third attack and fired weapons can hurt a great deal depending on how they're dressed.

@Firemanhaving intimate knowledge of a class will help you out far more than anything else. Not to mention the fact that any time I saw Belderon you were decked, though MARIA probably sucked to have permanently or until you were killed. People bitched about their melee because essentially two songs  buffed up your hit/dam quite significantly which is probably why they removed Dwarf and Duergar Bards because they benefited most in terms of the melee races. I'm not bitching about the songs ease of landing, and although the initial log may seem that way, I think it was more of an impulse post that should've gone to Prayer first, but you and everyone else who seems to think that everyone is bitching about and even those who are bitching about it is that this is a very small snippet that doesn't accurately portray the overall use of those songs. More logs means better tuning, less logs means it'll take a lot longer to tune them to near perfection. Look at F0xx. He made suggestions about Ninja's according to him and when they weren't looked at as keenly as he thought they should've he rolled on to prove it which helped tone them down a great deal after their rehash. That's honestly the only thing that really needs to happen here as well. No one gets something right or even perfect their first time around.

Use herbal brews?

Lullaby landing 3 for 3 with -54 saves is still a pretty high land rate.  I'd love to see more plot points, though, just to make sure that RNGesus wasn't on Taliscen's side.

 

Manual Labor's right.  Brews or other ways to poison yourself should be a staple in your inventory.  Can't steal the cabal container.

Not being able to see your stats is just annoying, not overpowered. It rewards people who will write a script to tally damage, though. I think it might make PK alot less fun even if its not overpowered. It seems like it'd be better if it just gave you "illusionary" hp/mana/mv, at random. Like, +350 hp, that's not really there...so in the back of your mind you know at 350, you die, but it still throws you off a bit of your natural instincts. Completely depriving someone of a core game mechanic just seems really stressful to play against.
