I've never really been a fan of our current note system, even though it provides a crucial component to communication. To me, there is a certain OOC aspect to how we do it. Now, I'm sure a lot of you will think I'm really nitpicking and there are a lot more projects that would certainly take priority over re-doing the note system. That being said, I agree with you. However, it's a suggestion I see no harm in placing on the forums... so please, refrain from flaming... Thank you.
Since we now have a means to actually write letters to each other, in game, I think we should transition away from our current note system to the use of Letters and Bulletins. News, Apps and Changes can remain the same, due to their needed OOC nature, with a few exceptions. (such as Cabal Apps and Cabal News)
Aabahran could have it's first Post Office! Instead of having to build an extra room for the three major cities (maybe each hometown). You only have to alter a room's description by combining the functionality of the Registry with the Postal Service. The Postal Service would be owned and operated by the Herald Cabal. (personally I think the Merchant's should become an independent organization and put their stamp on the banking system... but that's beside the point... sorry for the rant.)
Notes to Individual Players
We can write a letter and make a trip to the registry (post office). there, we can entrust our sealed letter to a Post Master... one that remains in his jurisdiction and is always in attendance. He will place your letter in the appropriate Mailbox, so long as you can provide an accurate first name.
syntax: to send a letter = send letter X (X equals name of recipient) [the letter you wish to send must be held]
Personal Mailboxes
While you're sending letters, you might as well see if someone sent you one!
syntax: to check your personal mailbox = check mailbox
syntax: to retrieve a letter or all the letters = retrieve all / retrieve # (# equals the number of the letter displayed in the check mailbox command)
Cabals with Bulletin Boards
Yes, that will mean that you will have to take a trip to your Cabal and yes that will mean that Cabal members would have to spend a bit of time within their Cabal. Does that promote hiding in Cabals, no. Granted, it takes away convenience... but it adds to the atmosphere, it adds to the realism of rp. (I'm aware that last sentence is a matter of opinion) Cabal Bulletin Boards will be a means by which it's members can post Bulletins on current events. As well, they can provide their vote on pending applications by entering the conjoined voting booth. It will be up to the Cabal Leaders and Elders to keep their Bulletin Boards updated.
syntax: to check the bulletin board = bulletin (this command will list all bulletins)
syntax: to post on the bulletin board = post (the letter you wish to post must be held)
syntax: to remove a post = remove post # (# equals the number of the post listed in the bulletin command)
syntax: to vote on current applications = vote (your character will then enter the voting booth, leaving the system we currently use but confining it to a specific location)
Notes and Apps you would like to send to an Organization
Works just like sending a letter to an individual, except you will address the letter to whichever organization you wish to receive it. That letter will be sent to their Organization where a cabal attendee will place it on their Bulletin Board. In case of cabal applications, it's all about the signature.
syntax: to sign a letter = sign letter (must be holding the letter you wish to sign) [signing a letter will place your name and title, as seen by the who command, two lines down from the last line of the letter]
syntax: to make a letter a cabal application = sign application (must be holding the letter you wish to send as an application) [must have been given permission to be able to send an application to a Cabal]
Letters you would like sent to the masses
You need only send your letter to the Heralds, they have the means to mass produce your letter and make sure it reaches every mailbox.
syntax: to send a letter to every mailbox = send letter all
NO LETTER OR APPLICATION CAN BE SENT ANONYMOUSLY! (except by Heralds and Syndicate. [only letters sent to individuals could ever be anonymous, 'cause organizations refuse anonymous letters and applications.])
NO BULLETIN CAN BE ANONYMOUS!
TO REMOVE A BULLETIN, YOU MUST BE THE LEADER OR AN ELDER OF YOUR CABAL!
ANONYMOUS LETTERS CAN BE TRACED BY THE IMMS!
ALL LETTERS AND BULLETINS MUST REMAIN APPROPRIATE! (nothing OOC, no profanity, etc...)
