Ceremony and Tradition

Everyone loves getting into that Cabal they’ve applied for… only, your app is approved and you’re told to look up the rules… bam… you’re a member, welcome!

Where was the ceremony; the tradition that helps create atmosphere in Aabahran?

What if, when said app is approved, you’re not automatically initiated… rather, you undergo an rp session of induction? Each Cabal could have their own ceremony… whether it’s just the Imm… the mortal members/elders/leaders… or an Imm controlling the mobs within the cabal. A Knight could actually be Knighted… kneel down… swear an oath… all of that rp’d within the game!

Organizations have their formalities/rituals… it’s part of what builds cohesion between it and it’s members. More importantly than it being realistic, it would create atmosphere… especially for new players! That’s the kind of stuff that immerses a character and makes them want to stick around.

Mircea used to have a nice semi-structured scripted RP setting for savant inductees. It worked rather well to enhance the ambiance. As I recall, potential inductees were taken to the area and inducted only after the meeting.

The only issue with broad implementation of this is the 24hr nature of the game, and the difficulty getting two random schedules to align. If the Imm never runs into the player, the players cabal career would be halted for no reason.

I believe the tradition ended when cabals shifted to a more player-controlled paradigm.

That said, I'm all for cabals having an induction ceremony provided it does not halt player development.

The idea is wonderful, but doesn't actually require anything more then current players and Imm's to RP it. There are countless things in real life than run in a similar state, where you get the job or position prior to an official welcoming. It's a really good point to bring up, and you've sparked a little RP idea for my own current char. I like it.

Zaen used to do something similar for Chaos as well sometimes.

Wow, who are you? I didn't know anyone here even was around in 1.0 still.

Wow' date=' who are you? I didn't know anyone here even was around in 1.0 still.[/quote']

No but I know a few that might start:D

I'm still here from early 1.0. But..I'm kinda like that nerdy guy that just hangs out at the back of the room during prom, never dancing or really doing anything. (No offense to anyone who bears any similarity to the aforementioned scene.)

I started late 1.0. I remember Zaen. I was still a major newb then. I've taken a few breaks over the years (who hasn't) but its still fun to kick up some dust with the playerbase.
