Hey community,
One of the bots trolling our forum had me looking through old posts, and got me thinking. I meandered the pathways of my psyche to recall fine works of art, in mediums ranging from pen and paper to short stories. I delved further to draw from the depths of memory tunes (and parodies), and more. All this thinking, you see, got me thinking. There was a time not too long go where we shared our talents with each other, and displayed our creativity here for all. I'd like to see more of that again.
So, whats your talent? We all have one, though sometimes we forget and fail utilize it. Sometimes we lack the self-confidence to believe it is our talent, but we don't need to worry about that here, amongst friends.
I'll start; I fancy myself a writer. A verbose, pontificating writer (who RARELY writes) but it's something I feel I'm good at.
How about you?
I have always been very good at finding abstract solutions to existing problems in everything from basic school level math, to vehicle repairs, to working out schedules, all the way to my FL RP/PK (most of my characters choose untaken routes with race/class/subcabal choices)
For example:
When choosing a character here to play I don't usually go after what I have seen other people successful with, the reason being is in a pk situation you know what a fire giant warrior is going to do for his "finish". He will 95% of the time eat a venom sack and bash to try to lag you to death. You know that because of years playing here. So my fire giants will bash once, then wait for you to flee so I can immediately chase with another bash. Effectively "resetting" the lag stack. Allowing you to have your one command in a condition that I had more control of than if I had gone after an all out lock.
My ranger was the same thing. You know what your going in after with an ogre ranger. It is burst damage combined with ogre/ranger healing ability. So you know where your exit point is if it is not going your way. Half the reason Kadrinath did so well is people did not know what to expect in a PK vs him. Many people severely underestimated the output I had given they had fought many other rangers while playing here, which is already a huge advantage vs me. I try to do things to prevent you from being able to judge what I will do next, taking away the experience factor many of us have here. This is also evident in Kadrinath vs Vibbletick. I purposefully let him put me "down" in early combat, giving myself an edge I could have used later in the pk if I needed (by way of not poisoning myself to start the fight out).
This method of thinking has lead me, at least here, to offer people some really insightful advice into race/class/cabal combos that have lead to successful characters.
I also really enjoy doing unique stuff with my real life toys:
Converted an 81 suburban to a 79 jeep cj-5
Put a cummins 4-bt diesel into a 93 jeep grand wagoneer (bread truck motor)
Put a hydrogen cell (hh0 generator) in a 4.3 astro van to let it run on hydrogen/gas mixture (fuel lines and hi-po quadfire plugs with bigger injectors)
put a 540 C.I. topkick motor into an '89 s-10.
took an '82 kow yz 1000 and made it a 1350 offroad kart
I really just like doing unique things that pose problems that require innovative solutions.
Wrath of the Double Post.
I don't know about me, but if f0xx uses his talent occassionaly, they will jail him(you know what I am talking about, biatch)
I'd say I'm a tactician. I enjoy breaking things down and studying them. As a fighter I take note of the abilities that have made the best fighters great and study them. As an IT I'm constantly figuring out how things work and how to make processes more efficient. In FL I enjoy studying the strengths and weaknesses of every race/class combo, I enjoy finding ways to make underplayed combos combative against the cookie cutters. In RL I'm always trying to find ways to improve my multi-tasking and efficiency. I study when I play FL. I read in the bathroom. I watch things on my pc while I'm training. And I hate going to sleep because it feels like I'm wasting my time. Hah I'm also known to do alot of twitching and quick movements in my sleep. Guess I'm going at it in my dreams too.

A good skill to have. I think I read an article not long back that said something along the lines of people who think outside of the box are far more likely to find a job in today's market.
I'd be interested to hear if you have any abstract solutions to things in game, especially advertisement. Feel free to PM me if you think of anything.
I'd say I'm a tactician.
A compartmentalist! Always a good thing, really, in today's complicated society. If you were to break FL down in to it's base parts, which would you say is it's greatest strength, and it's greatest weakness?
As for the twitching in your sleep, you'd be surprised how common that is. The synpases in your brain miss-fire and shoot pointless information down the reaction channels of your nerves causing twitches. My girlfriend does the same thing - freaked me out the first time, heh.
The scientific term is "Jimmy Legs" or Arms, for both it's "Jimmy Limbs"
Coding. All self learned. PHP, HTML, Java, Perl, Python.. you name it, I've messed with it to the point where I forced myself to learn it. A lot of people call my coding sloppy, but give me the time and energy and I can make it work.
(Snippet coding is a pet peeve of mine, by the way. Need ALL the code to make one single snippet to work, since there's so many includes to just one string of code to make one thing work!)
Tassin, go on a sleep diet! Sleep 20 minutes every 2 hours, and it will equal about 4 hours of sleep a day.
Takes some getting used to and is very hard in the beginning.
I also feel I'm a very good writer. I enjoy creative writing, poetry, and short stories. Basically, every reason to be in FL.
Other than that, I've been very involved in anything physically demanding. Adrenaline junky, all kinds of fighting/sparring, STUPID things that require an incredibly high pain tolerance.
Not to mention being extremely unhealthy.
And painful haha. Think I'd prefer not to sleep at all.
Volgathras: Hmm I'd say the constant competition and balanced and meangingful pk aspect is one of the best things about FL. Its easily known who the top pk and most rp inspiration characters are at any given time and what they're about. Everyone is always trying to strive to that level and that's what motivates alot of people.
... subjectively unhealthy. Some people can do it, which is why you can try it. Negative Nancy.
Debating would be one of my better talents. I think I've demonstrated that enough here that I need not elaborate.
Also, like Tass, I tend to be pretty good with tactics and strategy.
Editing.
Give me something to read and I'll point out every spelling/grammar mistake that was made. After many years I have learned to not speak the criticism out loud though.
I'm also a really good task manager. Give me the number of people and the job and I will line it out in nothing flat and have it done.
Sheep****er says what?
You might benefit from a practice of ending all your thoughts one sentence early.
I have a talent of making things disappear!
Like cookies, and chocolate.
I'll remind you all that the aim of this thread is to improve the quality of our game and the forums, and to celebrate the skills we have. Even jokes can be misread, so chose your words carefully.
This is the first and only warning; for this thread, I wont be shy levying punishments to those who detract from what it stands for.
I know we can get more than this fellas! Don't be shy. We got any singers? Artists? Underwater basket-weavers? Let us know!
