Post as anonymous

Allow a tick box that when filled will post as anonymous instead of your nickname.

Many times I've wanted to comment on farewell threads without revealing who I play, many times I've wanted to ask questions on the newbie forum concerning a character I play, but haven't because I don't want people to know who I play.

The implementation of this will remove those problems as it will prevent linking new forum members to existing character and thus turning them into PK fodders.

I saw the subject line and thought "why?"

And then your post answered that question quite nicely. It's got my vote. (Another place where remaining anonymous as the player but posting as the character would be quite nice would be in the PK logs section.)

I also like this and have run into the same problems. I avoid asking questions anymore because I refuse to become a target because of OOC.

This makes me sad. Maybe I'll get aim again. I want you to be able to ask questions...My inbox is still always open.

I have to play first before I even play. I get on AIM when I play so I can have people to interact with when I'm hunting or exploring the world. Both are needed but have been very boring lately. I've met few people that RP very little or use simple "small talk" anymore when sitting around idle. Not having the same gripping conversations I used to all the time back with my first character.

Unfortunately we don't have access to the forum's server/code to make any modifications...

How about a Quick and Dirty work around.

Create a forum user for anonymous posting.

Post name and current password in sticky only forum menbers can see.

Change password weekly or monthly to prevent advert guys from spaming us.

That's the only thing I was worried about, whether it is possible to be done, code-wise.

Well, it was worth the shot.

I'd have 0 problem hosting a forum for you guys shrug Especially since forsakenlands.net is pretty much.. forsakenlands.org.

One round-around could be having a person relaying the stuff, quoting your PM as anonymous in a thread you'd wish to reply to. I could nominate for that position - assuming that there won't be a horde of anonymous posts.

And Jibber is not the only one able to host a (totally free) forum. If using phpBB-forum, we'd have full access to the source-code of the forum, thus ability to tweak it all the way we want.

Although, if we'd want to transfer all the stuff from forum code to another (i.e. vBulletin -> phpBB), I'm not sure how big of a hassle it would be.

I've done it before.. isn't that hard. We wouldn't necessarily have to use phpBB either. I could definitely use my license of vBulletin

WAY Back in my forum RP days we had something very similar like this occur. We wanted a way for players to post questions freely unanimously or to post fun little RP Prompt ideas.

We called it a Mule account. Basically everyone within that particular forum knew the log-in info and it had limited privileges for simply posting.

This way we make an extra thread, make a mule account for that thread and everyone can post their questions without ANYONE knowing who they are. On the same note, everyone using this account has to be adult about it. More or less this is a factor of "do we trust our PBase with something like this?" It can be abused but I believe the moderators can heavily restrict the account.

anonymous questions = a great thread for in prayer.

requirements;

Character name

Character race

Character Class

Questions.

Deeds;

An Immortal could copy the information and relay the "players thread" to the masses.

Thread would then read as if Brehan, Erana, or so on had the question.

Players could answer without the thread giving the individual player away.

Problems;

Secondary questions have to be added to the original in Prayer post and must be monitored/maintained by an admin who is already overworked and under paid.

JMO, Love the Idea Foxx.

P.S. Maybe have the Admin in charge repost the "anonymous post" in newbie help, to keep the same questions from arising frequently.
