Typical of an american to forget and slander his roots

but seriously, english as a language has been in a downhill slide for a long time now. Even the well educated brits dont speak nearly as well as they did during the enlightenment.

anyway, there is no REAL english. Language is an evolution that has an origin and many paths. But there is better and worse english thats for sure.

Not all americans have the same roots....

No but they all have the same heritage. I assume that is what he meant.

It's better english is that..

I find it amusing you are talking about better english and say that

Two sets of pronouns and verbs...freaky.

Who were you quoting warp?

No but they all have the same heritage. I assume that is what he meant.

How you mean...? (broken english is fun)

Because without the revolting British colonists, there would be no Amercia. That makes every American, be they British, German (like me), Chinese, or whatever a godson of Britain.

I mean, think of it, without the Founding Fathers, we'd all be Canadians! God bless George Washington, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Jay, James Madison and all the rest.

Senthar in the starting post.

Count all the misspelled words in this entire forum and laugh at the irony.

It's just funny in my opinion we are talking about proper english and we misspell everything.

Just saying

We ARE talking about grammar, right? Isn't that what kind of 'proper' english we're talking about? How is it ironic that half of us can't spell worth a ****?

What about native americans there Wolfeman?

There are no native Americans. Actually, I'm a native American, because I was born in this country and have lived here my whole life.I know you're talking about the Indians, but I wanted to cut through the PC crap first.

I had a longwinded rant about this very subject. However, I decided it would be best to withhold it unless you decide to press for it, because it answers a lot more than the question you asked.

Anyway, the crux of it is this. Today, Indians are American citizens, so they too are considered in the 'whatever' part of the post, because like it or not, they owe their current existence to the first Americans. That said, I view their ancestors as any other defeated nation. They fought and they lost.

I also don't buy the notion that the Indians were innocent bystanders that got trampled over by the ruthless Americans, because when you consider what they did to us, and what we did to them, it seems about even. We just came out on top.

What I am about to say is a cold hard look at the facts, I am being objective and probably inhumane.

Yes, Indians were here before us and the land was theirs. Europeans came looking for new land and found America. Indians had it and Europeans wanted it. In very few cases the two wre able to share the land as lifestyles were very incompatible. Personally I think the Indians had a good thing, but a war was inevitable. Europeans won the war and killed of most of the Indians. IMO the europeans would ahve been smarter to kill them all, same in canada with the indians and inuit. Think about it for a second, because of Political Correctness and guilt for what people did hundreds of years ago we give the "first nations" people special treatment. They are perpetually discontent, few of them assimilate to american life, most of them took only our vice and basically dont work and get drunk of government money. Any successful invasion in history involved total assimilation or total annihalation. I do not know how bad it is in the USA, but im Quebec in particular A LOT of money is pissed away annualy on Inuits who just waste it while at the same time are quickly losing their culture. What do you get in the end? A bunch of angry people who dont know who they are anymore, thery just know they arent like "us".

On an individual basis there ar emany "first nations" people who do well in modern society but sadly the majority is a drain on it, and frankly it is the fault of those who came and conquered, they did a half-*** job.

Words are overrated.

DUUUuuudes

I only just saw the last THREE pages of posts, have you all gone mad???

The eyes tingling was the end of the conversation.

And Dale, I'm not p***ed, I just thought I would state the obviouse.

I wrote the "Its proper english is that" bit on purpose to contradict myself.

As for England, ......... it is up sh** creak without a paddle, I am UK so I know.

Peace peeps.

So I never check this side of the forum and I just saw this thread today and decided I had to say something but just so you all know I will probably not check this to read any replies...

American English is the real english because we're a world power? What kind of PERSON are you?

It's an attitude like that which re-elected President Bush.

..So I realized i'm saying something controversial now, so if you want to reply PM me because I still wont be checking this.

NO FLAMES!

** RAARGANT**

If you want to be very, very technical, everyone living outside of mid-to-southern Africa is non-native. At some point after we evolved there, we left and started our colonization of the rest of the world.

As to whether American English is "good" English... that's like saying Mexican spanish is "bad" spanish. It's all dialects and regional slang. That's how languages develop. Saying one version of a language is better somehow than another is pointless and judgemental.
