Post Cataclysm
30 to 70 PC
Civilization slowly recovered from the devastation of the BloodLetting. A new town called Seringale was constructed not far west from the ruins of old Thalos. But the collective unconscious of society carried the deaths of millions. Life was more careful. Less naive. Rulers were cautious. Every strong city now included some sort of military establishment. Scholars were treasured, and those with wisdom began to form small organizations. One such group called themselves the Savants. One of their first men of note was a mage named Miruvhor. He was a greedy man with a dark heart, known to those close to him. But his greed drove the reaches of human knowledge forward. While searching the far wastelands, his group found long buried tomes in an old shack. The name on them translated to Damnil. Miruvhor proudly translated the first prophecy, which spoke of grand struggles ahead. Many met these words with disregard. Notable efforts were made to silence the Savant criers, which perhaps added to their withdrawn nature. The city of Miruvhor was established on the east coast, its massive harbor opening trade into the lands beyond the Dragon Sea.

As prosperity continued, suspicion shrouded those who used magic. Warriors banded together and drove the Savants' headquarters from town. During this transition, the second and third prophecies of Damnil were translated. They spoke of a great struggle between the Primes of Life and Death. The details were kept as the Savants' grand secret.
With population growing, crime found its footing. Organized crime took root. Bandits plagued the roads. Caravans crossing the Dragon's Teeth Mountains were ransacked. To answer the pleas of the people, the Gods set down rules and gave power to chosen enforcers. The cabal Justice was born out of a need for security. Its members vowed to throw down their morality and become servants of the law.
The Immortals brought to life a swirling piece of pure magic. Mircea was created with the purpose of magical dominance and control over the Vortex of Magic. The Savants accepted him and he rose to their top. Not even Justice could withstand their devastating power. When the people feared the Savants would conquer all, Athaekeetha appeared once more. With a body of tempered steel and the mind of a thousand warlords, he unified the scattered warrior tribes. A war ensued for fifteen years. Neither side gained ground. As word spread, soldiers answered the call and pursued perfection in combat against these mages. They called themselves the Warmasters.

Strange new races appeared. Ogres from the Great Chasm. Werebeasts creeping from the forests. Faeries from beyond this world. The first Faerie was an alluring creature named Drenaar. The very essence of magic was woven into her being and she was drawn to the Savants. With her emergence, grave occurrences began. Children shouted unheard obscenities. Dark clouds rolled in. Seas heated to a boil. Fiery meteors set fields ablaze. All fingers pointed at Drenaar. Prophets and clerics ranted about the heavens' anger. After a week of this madness, Drenaar was captured by a small band of Chaos demons and carried away into the planar prison of Crypticant.

Lord Athaekeetha appointed Razkar to lead the Warmasters. Raght took his place as leader of Justice. The lands were badly damaged and now was the time for healing. A man pure of soul emerged. Cormac. Some say he was born the child of Drenaar and Palison, though this may be rumor. His jolly charm and strong faith in the Light earned him a massive following. Peace became the dominant cause. People begrudgingly returned to the backlands littered with skeletons. A kingdom of Light ruled the lands, held in place by a gallant army of Knights whose initial purpose was little more than show and intimidation.
The complacency lasted until Cormac was assassinated in his own home. Rumors of a second Bloodletting swept the land. Raght insisted that the King must have no natural enemies. Alexander rose to serve as King under a system that favored none, not even morality. To this day Justice stands with no inherent moral bias, in the spirit of peace through balance. A Knight named Sirant disagreed. He believed more radical means were necessary. He founded the Knights, whose purpose was to return the Crown to the Light. By design, Knights disagree on a fundamental level with Justice. Their main opposition came from a band called Chaos, who clung to the legacy of Crypticant, now known as Shadowspawn.

The cabals rose in power while all kept a cautious eye on the balance between Life and Death. New faces appeared. Miscreant, a Demon. Aberrant, twisted from a human shell. With aid from Falen and Parias, Chaos began to rise. Chaos and the Savants walked in unison for a time, facing no opposition. Then balancing forces appeared. The Knights constructed a new palace. Elena and Echtelion were the first two, but Orealt, the third, was the first Knight and Lightwalker to reach his pinnacle. The early battles were difficult, but reinforcements came. Ogres enlisted in the Warmasters. The realm sat in constant conflict. Knight fought Chaos. Warmaster battled Savant. Justice struggled to keep the streets safe.
