The Plane Shift

300 to 310 PC

On Thirday the 23rd of Balance, 308 PC, a purple streak of light descended from the northern sky. Moments later, a flash lit the horizon and the ground shook with a massive impact. The Immortals of Life revealed that a starstone had fallen in the lands of Winter. An expedition of Knights and Savants was dispatched. As they searched, the Dark Immortals sent their own forces to intercept them. The starstone had the power to slay any Immortal, even Virigoth itself. For months a bloody competition raged as the artifact changed hands. Finally the forces of Sirant secured the prize and news of the coming conflict shot through the lands.

Weeks turned into months as Sirant's power worked to forge the starstone into an ultimate weapon. The dark gods sensed their power endangered and prepared for battle.

In the second week of Death, 309 PC, the sky above Val Miran turned purple and rained blood. The ground split open. Creatures of Death assailed the city from all directions. The forces of Death and Chaos had forced Life's hand. As Val Miran crumbled around them, Virigoth and Sirant appeared in Central Square, surrounded by lesser gods and the Immortals of Balance, Bryntryst and Avariel. The Balance Immortals attempted to reason with them and warn of what was at stake. Both ignored them.

Sirant and Virigoth clashed. The battle leveled the city. They fought for hours. Sensing a moment of weakness, Sirant unleashed the starstone's power, severing Virigoth's link to the Nameless and mortally wounding the god of Death. But Sirant underestimated Death's tenacity. As Virigoth fell, Deezil struck from behind and felled the god of Life. Sirant lashed back and disintegrated Deezil in a single blow.

Both gods lay dying. From the pool of black ooze where Virigoth fell, Gorath the Lurker arose. In a burst of blinding light, Delvyn Keenen, Avatar of Life, appeared in his original form. The two avatars clashed as the Primes of Life and Death unraveled. The ground shook. The sky flashed with wild colors. Time accelerated and halted in random spurts.

Delvyn's sword found its mark and pierced the vampire's chest. But even as Gorath's body turned to dust, he uttered a final curse and sank his fangs into Delvyn's neck. Locked in that embrace, both forces died. Lysenties and Dyphrities began to lose orbit and disintegrate. Fiery rocks rained from the sky. Seas rose. The Underdark flooded with magma. The surface tore itself apart.

The remaining Immortals of Balance pooled their power and opened a massive planar rift, large enough for the whole planet. As the last mortals perished in the fire of the collapsing world, Aabahran passed through the rift into an adjacent plane of reality.

The First Age ended on Firstday the 1st of Life, 310 PC.
