The Shade War

220 to 260 PC

The years passed and Aabahran sat in relative peace. Chaos and Knight ground to a stalemate. Then a dark figure appeared on the horizon one night, followed by thousands. In a massive assault, armies of shades advanced into Val Miran and the surrounding territories. They killed citizens in droves. Nothing stopped their unholy onslaught.

A priest named Vellencht discovered something about these creatures. He fashioned an Amulet using strange ingredients that seemed to repel them. Soon he was selling these at the Temple of Darkness to anyone who needed protection. This was Virigoth's dark plan. The amulets were bound to the Nameless. Every person who wore one had their soul sealed. The shades slowly faded back into the shadows.

Then Rasep Dh'artep appeared. A sinewy creature with four razor tipped arms and an unholy skeletal face, it rose from a deep fissure beneath the Central Square of Val Miran. It hunted all with abandon as the avatar of the Nameless. Thousands more died. The forces of Virigoth learned the secret of the Soul Cubes. To free their master from the Nameless, Maleki, Calandra, Hersnaie, and others began harvesting souls.

With a massive effort, the forces of Knight, combined with a faction called Hope, trapped Rasep Dh'artep in a shadowy forest. Carnage and death ensued. Nearly all the force was wiped out. But so was Rasep Dh'artep. Its body withered to dust. An ancient secret was revealed for the first time in thousands of years. The location of the Pillar of Souls was again marked on the Isle of Souls. Virigoth, released from the Nameless with the defeat of Rasep Dh'artep, became the guardian of the Pillar's power and its prisoner.
